Are Lynx Point Siamese Cats Rare

Siamese cats are some of the most beloved and easily recognizable cats in existence. They’re known for being very active, inquisitive, talkative felines that demand attention and tend to be a bit on the aggressive side. But there are many variations of Siamese cats. Some of these variations affect not only the breed’s appearance but also their temperament.

One of the more unique and interesting Siamese variations is the Lynx Point Siamese. This is a cross between a seal point Siamese and a short-haired tabby cat. The resulting offspring not only has a beautiful coat that’s similar in appearance to a lynx, but they also have a more laid-back temperament that makes them a better fit for many than the high-strung Siamese. Luckily, the Lynx Point Siamese cat isn’t particularly rare and you shouldn’t have too hard of a time finding one if you’re looking to add one of these spectacular cats to your family.

What Is a Lynx Point Siamese Cat?

All Siamese cats have points, a color pattern where the tips of the nose, feet, and ears turn darker than the rest of the body. Lynx Point Siamese cats have the same colored points that all Siamese cats share, but the rest of their coat takes more after a tabby cat. Often, these Siamese cats have an appearance very similar to a wild lynx, which is where the variation gets its name.

Other Names for the Lynx Point Siamese

While Lynx Point Siamese is the proper name for this cat, it also goes by other names. In America, it’s sometimes referred to as a Lynx Colorpoint Shorthair, as it’s called by the Cat Fanciers Association. In the UK, The Governing Council of the Cat Fancy calls them Tabby Point Siamese instead.

Lynx Point Siamese Cat Appearance

Lynx Point Siamese cats can come with cream, cinnamon, apricot, or caramel coats with darker markings that appear as bands running down the body and legs. The points of a Lynx Point Siamese can be teal, lilac, chocolate, or blue.

Lynx Point Siamese Cat Temperament

While Lynx Point Siamese cats have a unique and beautiful look that sets them apart from other Siamese cats, it’s really their personalities that make them so popular. These cats tend to be much calmer and more docile than standard Siamese cats, which generally tend to be packed with energy. While many Siamese cats run around, play hard, and expend a lot of energy, Lynx Point Siamese cats generally display a far more laid-back temperament, preferring to lounge rather than play vigorously.

How Rare Are Lynx Point Siamese Cats?

Lynx Point Siamese cats are rarer than your average Siamese, but they’re not difficult to find. Many of them are available for sale or adoption if you look. A much rarer version of the Lynx Point Siamese is called the Tortie Point Siamese, which is a tortoiseshell variation of the Lynx Point Siamese. These cats are incredibly rare and locating one to add to your family could prove to be a difficult undertaking.

Conclusion

Lynx Point Siamese cats are beautiful Siamese cats with many traits common to the breed, though they lack the intense and aggressive nature displayed by many Siamese cats. Rather, Lynx Point Siamese tend to be much calmer and more docile. They’ll spend more time lounging on your lap instead of provoking you to play, which many people could find to be a better fit than the ever-energetic personality of a standard Siamese.
