10 Best Doormats for Dogs in 2024 – Reviews & Top Picks

Nicole Cosgrove Profile Picture

By Nicole Cosgrove

A dog mat Just like we need a doormat to clean off the soles of our shoes before stepping inside, our furry friends need a doormat for the same reason. Even more so when they’re wet from a bath and you don’t want wet dog dripping all over the floor! A good doggie doormat can do much more than just give them a place to sit while you dry them off. Some are so comfortable they can easily double as your dog’s bed. Since they’re so absorbent, you can even use the mat to help dry your dog off, keeping in mind that it will dry out again very quickly.

Before purchasing, you’ll want to know which mats are the most comfortable, absorbent, cost-effective, and even which ones give the best color and size selection. To that end, we’ve used as many as we could find to compare all these features and more. The following 10 reviews will compile everything we learned to help you make the right decision for your home and your fur-covered companion.

  • The 10 Best Dog Doormats Reviewed:

    1. Dog Gone Smart Dog Doormat – Best Overall

    Dog Gone Smart DGSDDM3521

    Check Price on Chewy

This highly absorptive mat from Dog Gone Smart is our top pick on the market. It’s available in four sizes, including a runner size. If you’d like to have many color options to choose from, this rug had some of the most choices available. Since it’s microfiber, not only is super absorptive, but it also dries very quickly. The non-slip backing was superior to that of most competitors, staying in place where you set it, even when dogs are moving around on top.

We loved this mat’s absorption, but that came with one drawback: if one of your dogs pees on this mat, you may never get the smell out completely. It has a Repelz-it nano-coating that’s supposed to prevent dirt, liquid, and oil from sticking to the mat. While it worked for those things, it didn’t seem to work for urine. However, it can be machine washed, which makes for easy cleaning. Ultimately, we think it’s the right combination of price, absorbency, and durability, which is why it has earned our top recommendation.

    Pros
    • 3,000 GSM absorbency
    • Very durable
    • 4 sizes available
    • Many colors to choose from
    • Dries quickly
    Cons
    • Will permanently hold urine smell

    2. SPOT Micro Fiber Dog Doormat – Best Value

    SPOT 50010

The SPOT 50010 microfiber dog mat was one of the cheapest we tested, but it didn’t sacrifice on durability. It can absorb 10 times its weight in water which we appreciated when bringing in a wet dog after a bath. The anti-bacterial and anti-odor technology worked well and our mat never seemed to absorb the smell of wet dog. For convenience, this mat is fully machine washable as long as you air dry it afterward.

The non-skid backing was adequate, though not as effective as the backing on our top pick from Dog Gone Smart. You’re also sacrificing color and size selection to save money with this option since it’s only available in a few different colors and sizes. Overall, we think it’s the best doormat for dogs for the money, which is why it’s earned the second position on this list and the title of best value. If it had more color options and a better non-skid backing, the SPOT 50010 may have made it to the top spot.

    Pros
    • Very affordable
    • Anti-bacteria
    • Anti-odor
    • Ultra-absorbent and quick-drying
    Cons
    • Limited colors and sizes

    3. Internet’s Best Chenille Dog Door Mat – Premium Choice

    Internets Best

This Chenille dog mat from Internet’s Best is so thick and comfortable that it can double as your furry companion’s sleep space. It’s got loads of features that we love to see, starting with the effective non-skid bottom that kept this mat in place. Most importantly, it was noticeably more durable than any of the other mats we tested. While most of them are machine washable, the Internet’s Best mat was one of the only ones that could also be dried in a machine. Just for the sake of convenience, we appreciated this feature. We also think it speaks volumes about the quality and longevity of this dog mat.

Though we think it’s one of the best mats overall, it’s not without drawbacks. To begin, it’s very expensive. That could be expected after reading about how great it is, but other mats do serve the same purpose at less than half the price, though this one arguably does so better. The final flaw is poor color and size selection. Three colors available in just two sizes too few options to work with.

    Pros
    • Non-skid bottom
    • Machine wash and dry
    • Very durable
    • Also comfy for dogs to rest on
    Cons
    • Limited color and size selection
    • Very expensive

    4. MAYSHINE Chenille Doormat for Dogs

    MAYSHINE MS170312

If a good color selection is one of the features you prioritize most in a doormat for dogs, then you may consider the MAYSHINE chenille doormat. This one isn’t pet-specific, but it has most of the important features needed for a dog doormat. That said, it’s missing the anti-bacterial and anti-odor technology present on some other mats, which is why it has just missed our top three.

With 16 colors to choose from in four different sizes, this may be the most versatile of the mats we tested. Comfort-wise, it performed very well thanks to the 6 mm of foam underneath the microfiber. This makes it great to double as a dog bed, but it also caused it to dry out a bit slower than competitors. Overall, this is a great doggie doormat, though it wasn’t one of our three favorites.

    Pros
    • Many colors to choose from
    • 4 different sizes
    • 6 mm of foam makes it comfy as a dog bed as well
    Cons
    • Expensive
    • No odor and bacteria protection

    5. My Doggy Place Absorbent Dog Door Mat

    My Doggy Place

We always appreciate a good selection, and with three sizes and five colors, this dog doormat from My Doggy Place gives you many options to choose from. Priced right in the middle of the pack, we feel like it’s an average performer, too. We loved the absorbency, which was above average. The non-slip grip on the bottom was another story. From the start, it never properly did its job. After a wash in the machine, the back had completely been destroyed and the inside filler had matted up into clumps. It’s advertised as being machine washable, though our experience says different.

Before washing, it was too thick for door clearance. Granted, this also helped make it more comfortable for our pooches, so it’s a bit of a tradeoff and may not even be an issue depending on where you intend to place it. Despite having many color and size options to pick from, other models with a similar selection held up better in the long run and we think you’d be better served going with one of them.

    Pros
    • 3 sizes and 5 colors to choose from
    • Very absorbent
    Cons
    • Washing ruined the mat
    • The non-slip backing is a joke
    • Too thick for operating a door

    6. Soggy Doggy Doormat Dirty Dog Doormat

    Soggy Doggy Doormat 362003

The Soggy Doggy Doormat is available in just two sizes, large and extra-large. However, you get eight different colors to choose from which may appeal to some people. This mat is very thick and absorbs plenty of water and dirt, exactly what we hope to see from our doggie doormats.

At first, the no-slip backing seemed adequate. After a few times through the washer, it had all but disappeared and our mat had become a sliding mess. Even from the start, it bunched up, but that was excusable. Once the no-slip backing was gone it became much less useful. If the backing were more durable and stuck around through many wash cycles, then this product from Doggy Doggy Doormat would likely have earned a much higher position on our list.

    Pros
    • 8 color options
    • Very absorbent and quick-drying
    Cons
    • No-slip backing washes off
    • Tends to bunch up
    • Only 2 sizes to pick from

    7. Furhaven Dog Door Mat

    Furhaven 80551617

Affordably priced and with one of the best selections of any dog doormat we tested, we held high hopes for the Furhaven dog bed mat. Available in six sizes and 20 different color variations, you’re sure to find one to suit any and every taste. However, it wasn’t quite as absorbent as other similar mats we tested, which is one of the most important functions of the mat to begin with. Even worse, this mat doesn’t dry quickly, another feature we highly prioritize in a doormat for our dogs.

The final nail in the coffin was the constant crinkling noise it makes from the thin thermal layer. This layer is supposed to help generate heat for your pet, though in our testing it wasn’t very effective for this. In the end, we think you’re better off going with something like the SPOT 50010 in second place which we feel provides a much higher value for the price.

    Pros
    • 6 sizes and 20 color variations
    • Affordably priced
    Cons
    • Not very absorbent
    • Doesn’t dry fast
    • Makes a crinkly noise

    8. EXPAWLORER Mat-Brown Doormat for Dogs

    EXPAWLORER

Selection is something we’re always looking for, but right off the bat, we noticed that the EXPAWLORER mat has very few options to choose from. You get three sizes and two color options—that’s it. If you’re a function over form kind of person this mat may still suit you. Let’s look at its performance.

It absorbed plenty of water and dirt, the main things we’re looking for in a dog doormat. However, that’s where good performance ended. The non-slip backing wasn’t effective, even right out of the box. Despite this, the EXPAWLORER mat was one of the more expensive models we tested. For the money, we think the Dog Gone Smart mat in the top position of this list is a much better value.

    Pros
    • Absorbs a lot of dirt and water
    Cons
    • Poor color selection
    • Expensive
    • Non-slip backing isn’t effective

    9. iPrimio Micro Fiber Dog Door Mat

    iPrimio

The affordable price of the iPrimio microfiber dog doormat will likely catch your attention first. Next, you’ll probably notice the dismal color offerings. You get one size that’s available in two colors, not much selection. That would be forgivable if this mat was a top performer. It includes a waterproof liner, something we didn’t see with any other mats. This may be a great addition if you’re looking to put this mat on a wood floor and want some extra protection for the flooring underneath.

The non-slip on this mat was a joke and never held it in place during our testing. A pawprint was supposed to be featured as the design on the mat, but on ours, it was hardly visible. After washing the mat in the washer, the microfiber top lost all of its soft feel and became very coarse and scratchy instead. We weren’t impressed by this dog doormat and think your money would be better spent on our value pick from SPOT instead.

    Pros
    • Very affordable
    • Includes waterproof liner
    Cons
    • Only one size and two colors
    • Non-slip doesn’t work well
    • Material didn’t stay soft after washing
    • Pawprint design isn’t visible

    10. Meilocar Absorbent Soft Floor Dog Mat

    Meilocar

Available in four colors and three sizes, this mat from Meilocar is thick and comfortable enough to double as your dog’s new bed. We appreciate comfort, especially when it comes to our fine furry companions. But the Meilocar mat never really looked as good as others we tested, so we didn’t like leaving it out in the house for that purpose.

This product slipped all over the place when on a hard floor. On carpet, it bunched up constantly and never wanted to lay flat. Despite the drawbacks, this is one of the pricier options we tried with our dogs. While it’s not a bad mat overall, it just doesn’t provide as much value as competitors at similar and even lower prices.

    Pros
    • Comfy enough to double as dog bed
    Cons
    • Only 3 sizes and 4 colors
    • Slips around a lot
    • Bunches up frequently

Summary of the Best Doormats for Dogs:

You may have been surprised to see just how much there is to compare on each of these doormats for dogs. Since we’ve gone through so much information in these reviews, a short recap is in order. We think the best doggie doormat overall was the DGSDDM3521 from Dog Gone Smart. It was one of the most absorbent of any mat we tried, and perhaps the most durable. Four sizes are available as in a range of colors.

If you’re looking for the best value, we think it’s hard to beat the SPOT 50010 microfiber dog mat, which is why it has earned our second-place recommendation. Ultra-absorbent, anti-bacterial, anti-odor, and priced very affordably, it’s easy to see why it’s the best bet for the money. Finally, the Internet’s Best chenille dog mat earns our premium choice pick. It’s comfortable enough to double as your dog’s bed, durable enough to be dried by machine, and the non-skid bottom was one of the best we encountered. We’re confident that all three will live up to your expectations and keep your four-legged loved ones comfy and dry.
