The Yaheetech 61-in Rolling Parrot Cage & Playtop is a great two-in-one cage that not only provides an interior living space for your small parrot but also a fun playtop on the roof. The cage comes with two wooden perches and two stainless-steel feeders. We loved that the company chose to include stainless steel bowls, as the plastic options other manufacturers include are typically of poor quality. The stand features four high-quality 360-degree swivel casters so you can maneuver your pet’s home throughout yours. It has a seed catcher at the bottom to help minimize how much of a mess your bird makes on your floor. The cage is easy to assemble, and the price is very affordable, given the high quality of the product.

The mounts for the food bowls are welded to the cage door, so they are not moveable.

    Pros

    • Two perches included
    • High-quality stainless steel bowls
    • Affordable price

The enclosure has a large, easy-to-operate landing-style front door and an attached shelf on the bottom for your parrot’s treats and toys.

Assembly is much more difficult than it should be. Additionally, the bars may not be able to withstand the weight of particularly heavy toys.

    Pros
    • Space-saving design
    • Comes with play top
    • Easy to operate front door
    • Integrated shelf
    Cons
    • Difficult assembly

    8. PawHut 54” Rolling Flight Cage Extra Large Bird House

PawHut 54” Rolling Flight Cage Extra Large Bird House

    Weight: 40 pounds
    Dimensions: 31.25”L x 20.5”W x 53.75”H
    Cage Bar Spacing: 1/2 inch

The PawHut 54” Rolling Flight Cage Extra Large Bird House is an affordable and spacious cage for your small or medium-sized parrot to call home. It has several access doors to make it convenient for you to access your birds and their food and water dishes. It’s made with lightweight iron to provide a durable and sturdy home for your pet. The cage sits on rolling casters to allow you to move it about your home, but there is no integrated storage shelf on the stand. It comes with four feed boxes, a water bottle, and two wooden perches.

The included instructions are unclear at times, making the assembly much more difficult than it needs to be. Additionally, the bottom slide-out tray doesn’t slide as smoothly as it should, which can make cleaning a bit of an annoyance.

    • Comes with feeders and perches
    Cons

    9. YINTATECH 52-inch Metal Flight Cage with Rolling Stand

YINTATECH 52 inches Birdcage Cover and Bird Cage Seed Catcher

    Weight: 37 pounds
    Dimensions: 31”L x 21”W x 52”H
    Cage Bar Spacing: 3/4 inch

The YINTATECH 52-inch Metal Flight Cage with Rolling Stand is a solid and durably built wrought iron cage. It comes with two large front doors to allow your parrot to enter and exit easily and a secure latch that prevents him from escaping. The manufacturer includes three wood perches and four plastic feeders with your purchase. The cage sits on top of a stand with four heavy-duty casters that allow you to roll it around your home easily.

This cage has no nesting doors on the side, which can make accessing feeder bowls much less convenient. While the manufacturer does send bowls along with this cage, we do recommend switching them out when you have the funds available. They’re not the greatest quality, and your bird would do better with ones made of stainless steel.

    Pros
    • Front door latches securely
    • Includes wood perches
    • Casters roll easily
    • Sturdy construction
    Cons
    • No nesting doors

The cage has feeder doors to allow you to access your pet’s food and water bowls easily, and it comes with stainless steel cups for feeding and watering purposes.

Though the weight is not specified, this cage is very heavy. It comes in three boxes, though it is fairly easy to assemble. There are some reports of poor quality control, with packages missing screws necessary to put the cage together, however.

Buyer’s Guide: How to Choose the Best Parrot Cage

There are several factors you need to consider as you begin shopping for the best parrot cage for your bird. The cage is the single most important piece of equipment you will buy for your parrot in their lifetime, so you must educate yourself on what makes an enclosure suitable or unsuitable.

    Size

The bigger the cage you can buy your bird, the better. Think about the massive expanse of the wild your parrot would have access to if they weren’t a companion bird. Even if they have never set foot in the wild, they may still feel restricted in captivity if the cage you provide is too small. Their enclosure will be their primary environment, so they must have space to practice their natural behaviors like flapping their wings, climbing around, foraging, and perching at multiple levels.

    Bar Sizing and Spacing

The spaces between the cage bars are a huge safety consideration and should absolutely factor into your decision-making process. The spaces shouldn’t be so far apart that your parrot can accidentally get their head stuck through. The diameter and strength of the bars should be looked at as well, as they need to be strong enough not to become bent or broken by a strong bird beak.

We recommend the following bar spacing for parrots:
    • Small parrots (e.g., parakeets, parrotlets) – 1/2 inch
    • Medium parrots (e.g., cockatiels, conures, caiques) – anywhere between 5/8” and 3/4”
    • Large parrots (e.g., cockatoos, macaws) – 1” to 1 1/4”

    Material

The material the cage is made of will determine not only its sturdiness and durability but its safety as well. Unfortunately, there are many poorly made enclosures out there made with low-quality materials that are actually toxic for birds.

Powder-coated metal is the most common cage material. They come in a wide array of colors to suit your home décor and are available at a much more affordable price point.

Stainless steel, however, is probably the best cage material out there. It’s the most durable and easiest to clean, but it is extremely expensive, which makes it inaccessible for a lot of folks.

    Security

Parrots are extremely intelligent animals that can make quick work of low-quality locks or clamps. The best cages have secure closing mechanisms to ensure your parrot will not become an escape artist.

    Included Extras

Most of the cages on our list come with extras like perches, food bowls, or play tops. You shouldn’t choose a cage just because of the amenities it comes with, as a lot of the time, the perches or bowls are of poor quality and shouldn’t be used at all. But the extras are a nice bonus when you’re already spending so much money on a cage.

    In Conclusion

For the best overall parrot cage, we recommend the Prevue Pet Products Wrought Iron Flight Cage for its sturdy construction and integrated shelving. Parrot owners on a budget should look at the Yaheetech 52-in Cage not only for its affordability but also for its security features. Finally, if money is no object, the Prevue Pet Products Imperial Stainless Steel Cage is a no-brainer!

We hope our reviews and subsequent buying guide have helped you pick the best cage for your parrot. Remember, the bigger you can go, the happier your avian pet will be.
