Blue Turns 10: Planning the Purr-fect Party

Hi, I’m Amanda! Read my introduction to learn more about me and Blue, my fluffy fire point Himalayan-Persian cat.

This year, my baby Blue turns the big 1-0, so I wanted to throw her a birthday party worthy of her whimsical personality. Blue has been my colorful companion for a decade, and watching her develop into the refined beauty she is now has been such a treat. She’s filled my days with a lot of joy, a few periods of mischief, and endless cuddles. So, what better way to ring in double digits than with a feline-friendly gathering? Here’s how I plan to make Blue’s 10th birthday one for the books.

Preparations For the Party

1. Date and Theme

Blue’s birthday is October 18th, which falls on a Friday this year, the perfect evening for a proper celebration. Since all good parties are themed, I decided on Catnip Carnival. Think bright colors, a photo booth, good eats, and plenty of catnip! I aim to create an engaging atmosphere that complimented Blue’s coy personality and interests.

2. Guests

While inviting all of her cat companions over sounds good in theory, I know this is impractical. A recipe for hiding and undoubtedly a few spats. Cats will be cats, right? A friendship wall featuring the pictures of all her besties is my solution. Snugs, Screamy, Roy, and Kahlua will all be there in spirit.

3. Decorations

To transform my space into a cat-friendly funfair, I created a red and white ribbon tent and a fun photo booth with stationary carnival-themed props for Blue to explore. My goal is to capture adorable and candid memories of Blue without any added pressure.

4. Eats

A birthday wouldn’t be complete without a cake! Luckily, Hepper has a list of vet-approved cat cake recipes to reference for inspiration, and I settled on a cheesy tuna cake. It has limited ingredients, full flavor, and is a treat Blue doesn’t get to experience very often. I’ll also pick up catnip treats and make a cup of catnip tea – a first for Blue that I bet she’s going to love.

5. Games

There will be a few new treat-filled balls and catnip kickers to get the party rocking. Blue’s a simple girl when it comes to playing, so I wanted to keep them easy not to avoid overwhelming her.

6. Gifts

toys and treats for Blue

Of course, Blue will be showered with presents! I’ve picked out the abovementioned toys and a new cozy cat blanket to keep her extra comfy in her favorite cat bed.

Capturing the Memories

I plan to take many pictures throughout the evening, documenting Blue’s reactions to each moment and event. Cake, toys, decor, tea – I truly think she’ll get a kick out of it all.

Throwing a lavish birthday party for Blue might seem a little ridiculous to some, but to me, it’s a milestone celebration of ten fabulous years with our family and represents the highlights of her journey thus far. It’s the perfect chance to reflect and prepare for all of the new experiences ahead.
