What Is BARK Bright Dental? How Does It Work?

BARK Bright Dental is a subscription kit containing dental chews and toothpaste to help keep your dog’s mouth smelling fresh and protect their teeth. Each chew has a groove where you apply the triple-enzymatic toothpaste. When the dog chews the dental stick, the toothpaste gets to work by helping reduce plaque and tartar buildup.

Depending on which subscription plan you choose, you will have a kit delivered monthly to your residence to ensure that not one day gets missed from your dog’s new dental routine.

What to Expect from BARK Bright Dental

The first step in getting this dental kit is answering some questions on the company website. Once the company gets some general information about your dog, they will have you choose which subscription plan you want. Once you have selected the plan and filled in your address and pricing information, the box will be delivered to you in a few days.

BARK Bright Dental Contents

Each monthly kit contains the following:
  • One (1) bag of BARK Bright Dental chews, containing a monthly supply of chews
  • One (1) tube of triple-enzymatic toothpaste

Once the toothpaste has been opened, it must be put in the fridge to perverse freshness.

Easy Way to Introduce Dog Dental Hygiene

Dental hygiene is often overlooked until there is a problem in your dog’s mouth. Since the idea of trying to hold your dog down and keep their mouth open while you brush their teeth the standard way, these dental chews make basic dental care easy. And delicious!

BARK Bright Dental Chew Ingredients

As dog parents, we want to be aware of what our dog eats, whether it is dry food, wet food, or treats. The ingredients in the dental chews are fairly simple when compared to some other commercially produced chews on the market. Potato starch is the first ingredient, then vegetable glycerin, gelatin, and pea protein.

Chicken is the fifth ingredient, and the placement of chicken on the ingredient list may not please some people. However, it is important to note that these chews are serving a hygiene purpose, not as a high-protein treat. The calories per chew for medium dogs is 41 calories.

No Choice in Chew Flavor

Unfortunately, the chews only come in chicken flavor. This is a small problem if your dog does not like or is allergic to chicken. These treats are not for you. We hope that as more people buy BARK Bright Dental kits, the company will be able to expand the flavor choices.

Unclear About the Best Time to Give the Chew

Most people brush their teeth twice a day, in the morning and at night. People who brush their teeth once a day usually opt for evening brushing to remove any food particles and go to bed with a fresh mouth. But it is not clear when is the best time to give the chews. In the morning? In the evening? After their daily feeding? Knowing when the chews and toothpaste will be the most effective would have been beneficial.

Is BARK Bright Dental a Good Value?

Overall, BARK Bright Dental is a good value. If you subscribe only for one month, it still only comes to a dollar a day. The longer your subscription, the cheaper each kit will be. Plus, if your dog likes the taste of the treat and toothpaste, it is a win-win!

FAQ: BARK Bright Dental

Does BARK Bright Dental customize its dental kits?

Not really. There are a few questions that you need to ask before subscribing. For example, the company will ask your dog’s weight. The weight will determine the size of the treats they send you. Smaller treats for smaller dogs, larger treats for larger dogs.

You are also asked about the dog’s breeds. Some breeds, such as Greyhounds, Toy Poodles, and certain Spaniels, are more prone to dental issues. They will also ask about any allergies. All BARK Bright treats are made with chicken, so if your dog is allergic to chicken, they will inform you that these treats are not a good choice for your pooch. Right now, BARK Bright treats are only made with chicken. Currently, there are no other flavors available.

Do you need to use the kit for 30 days before seeing results?

It is recommended that you use it for the full 30 days to see results. However, on the bag of chews, it says that you can start to see results after 1–2 weeks if used daily.

Can you use the toothpaste on other treats?

Doubtful. These treats were designed specifically for the BARK Bright toothpaste. The ingredients in the BARK Bright treats have been selected so as not to cause additional buildup on the dog’s teeth. Plus, the treat design helps hold the toothpaste in place so that dogs do not just swallow it, not gaining its benefits.

Our Experience with BARK Bright Dental

I received the BARK Bright Dental kit for my senior dog, Jelly. Jelly is a 12-year-old mixed-breed female. While she has never had any issues with her teeth, she is getting older. Older dogs are more prone to dental issues. So, doing something to prevent dental issues was always something on my mind. Getting your dog’s teeth cleaned at the vet can be a difficult experience. Some dogs need to be sedated to get the job done properly. I wanted to do something to prevent my Jelly from dental issues. Plus, her breath was not pleasant.

BARK Bright Dental seemed like a great choice! I had seen specific chews designed to help remove tartar and plaque buildup at pet stores; however, I have never seen any kind of dental treat that came with toothpaste. With BARK Bright Dental, you apply the toothpaste in the groove of the treat. No need to buy a doggie-sized toothbrush! Plus, I highly doubt that Jelly would sit for a single minute while I brushed her teeth.

When the kit arrived, I went over the directions and got the first chew ready. As the directions stated, you squeeze a line of the toothpaste into the groove of the chew and hold it as your dog chews it. Sounded easy enough. I gave the toothpaste a shake and squeezed out the right amount and held one end in my hand so Jelly could gnaw on the other end, getting the full benefit of the treat.

Whoops! My dog took two chomps, and the chew was broken in two. Jelly chewed what she had in her mouth and patiently waited for the other half in my hand. Hmm. These chews do not hold up well when being gnawed on. I gave her the other half of the treat. She chewed it quickly and swallowed it. I hoped that Jelly would benefit from the chews even if they did not hold up to being gnawed on for a bit.

After using the chews and toothpaste for over two weeks, I decided to see how well these treats worked. I told my dog to sit and gently opened her mouth and took a whiff. Actually, her breath was indeed fresher! It did not make me recoil in disgust, which was a relief. There was a definite improvement.

Something that I noticed after using the chews for about two weeks was that she was more playful with my other dog. She would run up to him and pretend to play bite at his face. While she does play like this on occasion, she does not do it for very long. However, after using these chews, she seemed to be more confident when playing. Deep down, maybe she noticed a difference in her breath as well!

However, since I only used the treats for 15 days, I did not notice too much of a change in her teeth. Her teeth were never poor, though. There is some yellowing on the teeth near the gums, but she is over 12 years old. I am interested to see if that bit of yellow will decrease as I continue to use BARK Bright Dental.

Conclusion

Overall, I was pleased with BARK Bright Dental as it definitely improved my dog’s breath. I loved that my dog seemed to notice her breath was fresher, too! I wish the chews could handle a bit more gnawing before they broke apart, but this did not seem to impact the improvement in my dog’s breath.

BARK Bright Dental is a good value and quality product. The toothpaste was easy to apply, and my dog loved the taste of the chews. At the cost of less than a dollar a day, it is worth trying if your dog has stinky breath!
