When you’re heading out to go shopping, and your canine gives you sad puppy eyes, it’s hard not to scoop it up and take it shopping with you. Most pet owners leave their canine pals at home because most stores don’t allow pets to accompany their owners inside to shop.

One store that does allow dogs is called At Home, but that permission has caveats. Technically, they allow service dogs, emotional support dogs, and small pet dogs inside the store. We’ll discuss what this means for you and your pet below.

Is At Home Considered to be Pet-Friendly?

At Home stores are considered to be pet friendly. Even though their policy covers all stores, the store has to go by the rules put forth in each state, county, and city that they are in.

If you want to take your pet to At Home, it’s best to call and see if pets are allowed in the store you’re considering. In general, it’s okay to bring your pet into these stores, but the company leaves it up to the management of each store, and they get to modify what types of pets are allowed.

What Is At Home’s Official Pet Policy?

While most pets are allowed inside At Home, they must always be on their best behavior. The dog must be small, on a leash, or always kept in the shopping cart. If you don’t follow the rules or your dog becomes destructive or misbehaves, an employee will ask you to leave.

If your dog is not a service dog, it must be under 50 pounds to be allowed in the At Home stores. While this is the policy at the moment, the company reserves the right to change the policy at any time.

Why Does At Home Allow Dogs?

The owners of At Home stores believe that pet owners will have a better shopping experience if they bring their pets shopping with them. This also provides quite a few benefits for the store as well. Pet owners will stay in the store longer if they have their pets with them and don’t have to rush to get home.

It’s also thought that people will spend more money if they have their pets with them, which is a pretty solid strategy on At Home’s part.

Divider 5Wrap Up

At Home is a pet-friendly store, but it reserves the right to deny any animal access to the store if it is not well-behaved and may cause a problem with other pets and customers. Service animals, emotional support animals, and animals under 50 pounds are allowed in the store as long as they are on a leash or in the cart, except service animals, of course.

Each location may have different rules concerning which dogs are allowed, so it’s best to contact the manager of your local At Home before deciding to take your dog on your next shopping trip to be on the safe side.
