Five Below

When you have a dog and you are trying to go shopping, it is only natural to wonder where you can and can’t take them. But if you are looking to bring your pup to Five Below, you’re probably in for a disappointment.

That’s because while each Five Below store sets its own pet policy, most do not allow you to bring in dogs, except service dogs. But how can you find out if your local Five Below allows pets, and what should you know as a pet owner before bringing your pup into any store? We’ll answer those questions for you here so you know exactly what you’re getting yourself into.

Five Below Pet Policy

Currently, Five Below does not have a pet policy for all their stores. However, most Five Below stores do not allow dogs. But since the decision comes down to the specific store, it’s best for you to reach out to the local store manager for their specific pet policy.

However, since most Five Below stores do not allow dogs, we would have a backup plan ready in case you can’t bring them in. Keep in mind that these policies are for pet dogs, not service animals.

Five Below and Service Dogs

While most Five Below stores won’t allow pet dogs inside their stores, that’s not the case for service animals. Five Below stores must stay compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), and because of this, service animals can go into Five Below Stores.

Stores cannot legally discriminate against service animals. However, this law only applies to registered service animals, not regular pets or emotional support animals. If you have any questions regarding Five Below stores and their policies regarding service animals, feel free to reach out to any manager or employee of the store, and they’ll walk you through everything you need to know.

The 4 Tips for Bringing Your Pet to Stores

While you can’t bring your dog to most Five Below stores, if you can bring them to your local Five Below or if you’re thinking about bringing them to a different store, there are a few different things you should know. We’ve highlighted some important tips you should follow to ensure a seamless outing with your pup.

1. Train Your Dog First

When you’re in the store with your dog, it’s not the time for a training session. You need to train your dog before you bring them into the store so you know they’ll be on their best behavior while they are there.

You need to have a completely housebroken pet, and they should listen to basic commands before you bring them into a store. This helps ensure they won’t mess on the floor and that they’ll listen to you when they need to.

2. Use a Short Leash

Tons of people use retractable leashes that give their pups more space to sniff and roam when on a walk. While there’s nothing wrong with this, in many situations when you’re inside a store, that’s not what you want. You want a leash no longer than 6 feet. This way, your pup will stay right by your side the entire time you’re inside.

3. Bring Treats

While a well-trained dog likely won’t need treats to listen to you, there’s nothing wrong with bringing a little extra incentive with you. If you sporadically give them some treats while you’re shopping, it can help ensure they stay on their best behavior and will keep their attention on you the entire time you’re shopping.

4. Keep an Eye on Them

When you’re shopping with your dog, they remain your responsibility, even if the store allows you to bring them in. That means if they break something, make a mess, or cause problems any other way, it’s still on you to fix it.

Because of this, you need to keep an eye on your dog throughout your entire trip to the store. This might make it a little more challenging to shop around, but it’s just part of bringing your dog into any store.

Final Thoughts

Just because you can’t bring your dog into most Five Below stores doesn’t mean it isn’t worth inquiring about yours, and there are still plenty of other stores out there you can bring them into. Ask about your local Five Below, and if you can’t bring them in there, you can check out another local store that will let you bring your dog in the next time you’re out shopping with them.
