Final Thoughts Before Going to the Beach

Now that you have a choice of beaches to take your dog to, there are a few things to remember before you jump in the car:

  • Clean up after your dog (and yourself). Although some of these beaches require a fee, these fees are not enough to pay for someone to clean the beach every hour for dog feces. Always clean up after your dog. All responsible dog owners know that picking up poop is not pleasant but it helps keep fantastic places, like the aforementioned beaches, clean and sanitary.
  • Bring water. “Water, water everywhere, but not a drop to drink!” This saying might come to mind when you bring your dog to the beach on a hot day. Assume that there will not be easy access to water fountains, so bring plenty of fresh water for you and your dog. They will appreciate a cool drink after splashing in the waves!
  • On leash or off leash? You know your dog better than anyone. Even if you head to a fence-in beach, ask yourself whether your dog responds quickly to being recalled. There might be other dogs in the area and if your dog is shy or nervous, it is a better option to keep them on a leash. This is for their safety and the safety of other dogs around. Plus, you can still have fun!
