Funny Cat Names

Our cats are elegant, refined, and dignified creatures. At least that’s what they want us to think. Often, they can be crazy, silly, and funny, and therefore, wouldn’t it be perfect to give them a name that suits those nutty personalities?

Of course, all kittens are a little crazy, so if you have a new kitten, it’s only fitting to give them a name that supports those kittenish antics. There are a few breeds out there that a funny name might not seem too appropriate, but then maybe you could go with it ironically.

We’ve come up with 225 names for you to choose from in the hopes that you’ll find the right name for your unique cat.

Use Your Imagination!

You can play on names like Sir Pounce-a-Lot – it can be based on a quirk of your cat such, as Sir Zooms-a-Lot or Sleeps-a Lot.

You can also consider adding titles to your cat’s name, such as:
  • Professor
  • Her or His Majesty
  • Queen/King
  • Madame
  • Sir
  • Mrs. or Miss
  • Senator
  • Dame
  • Prince/Princess
  • General
  • Sergeant
  • Colonel
Then you can also consider adding a suffix at the end of your cat’s name, like:
  • -licious
  • -ette
  • -tastic
  • -zilla
  • -ster
  • -banana
  • -meister
  • -bear
  • -boo
  • -oid
  • -kin
  • -pot
  • -bottom

So, you can start with one name, like Pickles, and end up with His Majesty Picklesbottom or Dame Honeybear, and so on.

You can come up with almost any name you can think of. However, remember that you’ll be using your cat’s name with your vet, friends, and family, so if you’re a little embarrassed with the name you’ve chosen, you might want to rethink it.

But in the long run, your cat really won’t care about the name. What they do care about are your attention and love. But the naming world is your oyster!

How to Name Your Cat

There are several things you can look at that will help inspire you with a name for your cat. You can use the patterns and colors of your cat, or perhaps your cat’s breed itself can help you come up with a name. For example, if you have a Scottish Fold, you can look at Scottish names.

Or perhaps your cat’s size and shape can also help. If your cat is particularly svelte or, shall we say, round, this could give you some ideas.

And then there’s your favorite musicians and celebrities. Or perhaps you have favorite characters from books, TV, or movies that will suit your cat well.

And, of course, there’s using some of your cat’s unique personality traits and quirks that might work. Or look at food or add a title to your cat’s name. We’ll get into all of this further on.hepper-single-cat-paw-divider-e1614923017121

Conclusion

Humor can undoubtedly be in the eye of the beholder. Giving your cat the name Sugar might not sound funny to anyone else, but you’ll personally find it hilarious if your cat is anything but sweet.

And of course, as we outlined above, you can always add titles and suffixes to any name to make it funnier and quirkier. We all probably do this to some degree with our cats, and most cats end up with nicknames, don’t they?

Hopefully, if you haven’t found the perfect name for your cat on our list, that perhaps you’ve at least been inspired and can come up with something on your own. Finding a name that you like and suits your cat is literally the name of the game.

Your unique cat needs a unique name and if you haven’t found it yet, just keep looking, and you’ll probably stumble across it before you know it!
