How To Extend The Life Of Your Dalmatian Molly

There are some things that you can do in order to ensure that your Dalmatian molly lives for as long as possible. Let’s go through some quick tips on keeping your Dalmatian molly in prime condition so it reaches old age.

Quick Tips to Extend Your Dalmatian Molly's Life
  • Mollies in general are pretty messy, so you need to make sure that you have a really good filter. Their waste creates a lot of ammonia, nitrites, and nitrates, plus other toxins too. They also tend to leave food at the bottom of the tank. A great filter that gets rid of solid debris, plus has bacterial filtration for ammonia and other toxins is crucial. The better your filter the longer Dalmatian mollies will live for.
  • Dalmatian mollies are technically brackish water fish. So, while they can survive in freshwater conditions, they do best if you add 1 teaspoon of aquarium salt per gallon of water in your aquarium. This will go a really long way in keeping your Dalmatian molly alive for as long as possible.
  • The Dalmatian molly is a tropical fish, which means that it needs warm water to survive. You will probably need to get a heater (more on those here) unless you live somewhere that will allow the tank water to be at least 78 degrees on a consistent basis. Anywhere from 78 to 82 degrees Fahrenheit will ensure that your Dalmatian molly is happy and healthy.
  • Another thing that you can do to ensure a long and healthy life for your Dalmatian molly is to feed them high quality food. High quality tropical fish flakes or pellets will do just fine, but some occasional fresh or freeze dried foods (daphnia, insects, insect larvae, brine shrimp) are highly recommended for a protein, mineral, and vitamin boost.
  • Remember to change at least 1/3 of the aquarium water per week in order to ensure optimal water quality.
