We give the Jolly Pets Jolly Tuff Treader a rating of 4.7 out of 5 stars.
How many toys have you brought home only for your dog to destroy them within minutes? If you have a powerhouse of a chewer, your answer is probably a lot. My dog, Micah, is an average chewer and he still manages to rip through a good share of his toys. I can only imagine how hard it is to find a toy that lasts if your dog makes it their mission to tear each one apart.
The good news is Jolly Pets has a line of toys exclusively for aggressive chewers. Known for their famous Jolly Ball, Jolly Pets is a popular company that sells a variety of dog toys and pet essentials.
I ordered their Jolly Tuff Treader toy for my dog and he loves it. It has a unique shape with raised tire treads for your dog’s chewing enjoyment and comes with a handle attached at the top to keep your hands slobber-free.
If your dog is a power chewer, this could be the toy for you. Keep reading to find out!
About Jolly Pets
What is Jolly Pets?
Jolly Pets has a pretty cool story. They were founded in 1994 as a subdivision of Horseman’s Pride, Inc., a leading manufacturer of horse products in the equine industry. After Horseman’s Pride made a popular toy for horses called the Jolly Ball, they decided to make a smaller version of the Jolly Ball for dogs under the brand Jolly Pets.
Since their founding, Jolly Pets has expanded their product line to include a variety of pet essentials, including dog toys, treats, beds, and cat houses. With an emphasis on quality and durability, all of their products are high quality and built to last.
Who is the Jolly Tuff Treader Best Suited For?
This is a great toy for dogs of all breeds and sizes and is specifically designed for powerful chewers. The unique design makes it ideal for fetching, tugging, and stuffing, and the textured rim is perfect for teething pups and dogs that like to chew.
Jolly Tuff Treader Overview
It’s always exciting to give your dog a new toy, especially when it’s one you know they’re going to love, and the Tuff Treader is one I knew Micah would be crazy about. It’s made with a fun design and the materials are safe for your pet. You can even get a free replacement if your dog chews through the first one.
What is the Jolly Tuff Treader?
The Jolly Tuff Treader is a fun spin-off of the brand’s popular Jolly Ball. It has similar characteristics to the ball but is designed with a special shape and texture to give it a “treaded” look and feel. It’s also part of the Jolly Tuff Range, which means it’s guaranteed to stand up to the most powerful chewer.
Along with being a tough toy, the Treader has a lot of fun features to keep your dog engaged. A few ways your pup can play with it include:
- Chewing it
- Stuffing it
- Carrying it
- Fetching it
- Tugging it
Materials
Jolly Pets makes their rubber toys with a specially formulated blend of a heavy-duty blend of rubber that is designed to withstand the toughest chewers. This “tuff” material is made with all-natural materials that are BPA, PVC, and phthalate-free.
What’s nice about the material is it’s not super hard. Even though it’s durable, it has a bendable, springy texture, so your dog can have fun chewing it without hurting their jaws or teeth.
Sizing
The toy comes in two sizes:
- Small 4.5” for dogs 0-30 lbs
- Large 6” for dogs 30+ lbs
I ordered the large size for Micah (he’s a 54 lb Standard Goldendoodle), and it’s perfect. It’s big enough to be sturdy but small enough for him to chew and hold comfortably.
Warranty
Since the Tuff Treader is in the Jolly Tuff Range. This means you can get the toy replaced for free if your dog manages to destroy it. All you need do is send the damaged toy back to Jolly Pets with proof of purchase and they will send you a one-time replacement.

Key Features
Durable
If your dog likes to destroy every toy on the market, this one is worth checking out. It’s designed to hold up against aggressive chewers and is on the highest end of Jolly Pets’ Tuff Meter, which means it’s one of their toughest toys. Because it’s made specifically for chewing, you can feel comfortable giving it to your pet without worrying about them destroying it (at least not too quickly).
Stuffable
Along with being a great chew toy, the Treader’s unique shape makes it an engaging enrichment toy. The hollowed-out center is perfect for stuffing your pup’s favorite snack or lining the inside with spreadable treats for twice the fun.
Dry treats were pretty easy for Micah to get, so I liked using spreadable treats to keep Micah entertained for a longer amount of time.
Easy to Hold
Nothing says playtime like a handful of slobber, which is why the toy is designed with an easy-to-grip handle. The handle keeps your hands clean during play and is easy for you and your dog to hold. I found the handle useful when playing fetch and tug, and Micah likes using it to carry the toy around the house.
Cleans Teeth
Something I love about the toy is the textured rim. Micah loves rubber toys with uneven surfaces, and this one has ridges on the outer rim that are perfect for dogs to gnaw on. Not only do the ridges provide enrichment for your pet but they’re designed to help clean your dog’s teeth. Definitely a win-win!
Is the Jolly Pets Jolly Tuff Treader a Good Value?
When it comes to the Tuff Treader, you’re paying for quality and durability, and Jolly Pets delivers. This toy is durable and high-quality and can be used for so many different kinds of play. Even though it’s priced at $20.99, I found it to be a good value for the money. Not only is it going to last a long time but it’s like getting several toys for the price of one, which makes it a great value.

Our Experience with the Jolly Pets Tuff Treader
Even though Micah isn’t an aggressive chewer, he’s destroyed enough toys for me to be selective about the ones I choose to buy. After browsing Jolly Pets’ toy selection, I decided to get the Jolly Tuff Treader because of its durability and unique design. I wanted to get a toy that had a fun shape and would last longer than a few days, and the Tuff Treader did not disappoint.
When the toy arrived, Micah was so excited. His whole body was wiggling as he waited for me to take the tags off and give it to him. Once he had it in his mouth, he immediately started chewing it and wouldn’t put it down.
Micah is a sensory pooch and loves rubber toys that have fun textures and a springy feel, and this one has both. It’s made with a raised tire tread surface that goes around the ring and handle, and the rubber is squishy enough to keep your pup engaged. Micah loves gnawing on the treaded surface and handle, and the teeth-cleaning properties are a nice perk.
I was initially concerned the toy would be heavy given the industrial look, but it’s surprisingly lightweight and easy to pick up. Micah doesn’t have a problem carrying it or running around with it in his mouth, and it’s easy for me to throw when playing fetch. The handle is great too since my hands stay clean when I play with him.
One of my favorite things about the Tuff Treader is it can be used as an enrichment toy. Micah is very food-motivated and loves it when his toys are filled with special snacks. I love it too since it’s a great way to keep him entertained. Since the inside of the tire is hollowed out, there’s plenty of room to hide treats. The only downside to the large gap is that it’s easy for dry treats to fall out, so it only took Micah a few minutes to roll the toy around and get all the treats.
Because of this, I liked putting spreadable treats like peanut butter or Buddy Butter around the inside. This kept Micah entertained for a longer amount of time, especially when I put it in the freezer beforehand.
More than anything, this toy is extremely durable. Micah hasn’t been able to make a dent in the Tuff Treader because of how thick the rubber is and I’m not concerned about him ripping it apart any time soon. He also hasn’t stood a chance at tearing off the handle, which was my other concern before ordering it.
Needless to say, I’m impressed with the toy’s quality and design. This is a well-made toy and I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a tough toy for their pup, especially if they have an avid chewer.
Conclusion
If you have a power chewer and are looking for a great toy, the Jolly Tuff Treader is one you don’t want to pass up. I’m always careful about the toys I buy for Micah since I don’t want to buy something he’s going to tear up in five minutes, but the Tuff Treader was definitely worth the purchase. Micah is obsessed with this toy and the fact that I can stuff it with treats makes him all the more excited when I bring it out to play (or he grabs it out of his toy bin).
