Our Experience

When I got Micah, I worked with a local dog trainer off and on for the first year. I’d been through the puppy stages before with my previous dogs, but I still wanted the help of a professional to guide me through the process. Even though the trainer was amazing, I ran into the same problem I had so many times before–Micah was a star student when he was working with her, but the minute we got home, it was like we both forgot everything we had just learned. We made it through puppyhood (eventually), but it was more of a struggle than it needed to be had I trained him using the OneMind Dogs method. Not to mention, the convenience of an online program is invaluable if you have a busy schedule.

One of the first things I noticed about the course was how comprehensive it is. The program has 96 lessons and 40 socialization exercises to work through each day and each lesson is packed with a lot of great information. There’s also a ton of support available from professional coaches and fellow dog owners if you have questions about training or want to connect with puppy parents on the same journey as you.

After clicking through the links in the navigation bar (lessons, socializations, preventing problems, puppy training group, and mobile app), I got started on the first lesson. The layout was easy to follow and I love how each one comes with a video that walks you through exactly what to do. I found the videos to be particularly helpful because they show real-life examples of puppies learning the exercises for the first time. I appreciated being able to see a visual of what I needed to do and an example of how Micah should respond. If Micah didn’t respond to the cues, there was a troubleshooting section I could reference to pinpoint the issue and try again with a different approach.

Since Micah is 6 years old, he was already familiar with the course material, but it was still nice to brush up on a few skills and learn how to train using the OneMind Dogs method. I learned so much about dog (and human!) behavior that I never knew before and the lessons helped me understand the world from Micah’s point of view.

Along with the training sessions, socialization exercises are another big part of the course. This was one of my favorite parts of the program because it encouraged me to do fun activities with Micah, like visiting new places, getting together with family and friends, and exposing him to different stimuli (sounds, surfaces, and other animals). It’s so important to desensitize your pup to everyday sounds and experiences early on, and the weekly socialization activities do a fantastic job of guiding you through the process.

Overall, I love the course and I’m looking forward to learning more about puppy training as I continue through the lessons.
