PAW Patrol

PAW Patrol is an animated series that is beloved by many. It features the adventures of six rescue dogs, led by Ryder, a tech-savvy 10-year-old boy that acts as a lookout for the gang.  Each pup is unique and heroic in their own way, possessing a variety of skills, vehicles, and gadgets to help on each mission. The gang band together to help serve and protect their community using their motto “no job is too big; no pup is too small.”

The four-legged members of PAW Patrol consist of Chase, a mature German Shepherd with police dog skills and a super spy vehicle; Marshall, a kind-hearted and clumsy Dalmatian that serves as a firedog and a medic; Skye, an adorable Cockapoo with impressive aviation skills for air rescue; Rocky, the mixed breed eco-friendly pup that’s always recycling; Zuma, the Chocolate Lab with a knack for swimming, diving, and water rescue, and Rubble, the tough and rugged construction-loving English Bulldog.

PAW Patrol first aired on August 12, 2013, and quickly became a fan favorite. The show was renewed for its 10th season in March of this year and PAW Patrol: The Movie was released in theaters in August of 2021 and the sequel, PAW Patrol: The Mighty Movie, was released in the fall of 2023.

All About Rubble

Rubble was first introduced to the PAW Patrol gang when he was rescued by Chase’s net after he got stuck on a tree branching hanging over the ocean. After he was rescued, he snuck into Chase’s vehicle to join in on a mission.

During the mission, he proved himself worthy of the group by showing off his digging skills. Rubble was thought to be a homeless stray, but after the mission, Ryder announced that Rubble’s new home was part of the crew as PAW Patrol’s construction pup.

Rubble is a 5-year-old fawn and white English Bulldog that may have a rough exterior that you would expect from your typical construction guy, but he’s a lovable pup with a love for food and a good joke.

Rubble’s main color is yellow, and his truck is very similar to a bulldozer but also has some modifications with various construction-related tools like a drill, a crane, and a digger. He’s always in line to help with any constriction-related needs that the gang comes across.

This pup may seem tough on the outside, but he has a heart of gold and is very in touch with his feelings. He has a soft spot for small animals and in addition to eating, he also enjoys taking naps, bubble baths, skateboarding, and snowboarding.

Rubble suffers from an extreme fear of spiders but also dislikes being sprayed by Marshall, deep water, ghosts, peppers, and cold baths without bubbles. You will catch him frequently saying “Rubble on the double!” and “Let’s dig it!”

About the English Bulldog

Height: 14–15 inches
Weight: 40–50 pounds
Lifespan: 8–10 years
Temperament: Friendly, courageous, gentle, loyal
Breed Group: Non-sporting

History

The English Bulldog originated in the United Kingdom as far back as the 13th century under the rule of King John. The breed was used in the now-illegal sport of bull baiting. Once cruel blood sports were banned during the 1800s, they began to move underground where breeding changed up resulting in other bully breeds.

With the lack of bull baiting, these Bulldogs came close to extinction but those that revered the breed decided to focus on turning the breed from fighter to companion. During this time, their physical attributes changed significantly and by the late 1800s, they became recognized by top kennel clubs across the world.

Nowadays, the Bulldog remains a primary symbol of England and is quite popular throughout the world, especially in the United States. Bulldogs remain one of the top breeds in the nation and are featured as mascots for several sports teams.

Appearance

English Bulldogs are stout and muscular with short faces, thick necks, and dangling jowls. They have short, fine coats that come in a few color and pattern variations including brindle, piebald, solid white, red, fawn, and fallow.

By breed standards, they weigh anywhere from 40 to 50 pounds, though some have been known to exceed that maximum weight. They stand about 14 to 15 inches in height and are known for their wrinkly, loose skin.

Temperament

These compact powerhouses have very lovable personalities and are typically very friendly and gentle. They typically make excellent family dogs and do very well with children of all ages. This is a breed that loves people and will go out of its way to seek attention.

They are well known for being absolute goofballs with a love for lounging around. Their courageous, protective side will show when they feel threatened by any unfamiliar dogs or anything out of the ordinary.

Health

Unfortunately, the health of the English Bulldog is a large concern and has the breed heavily debated. The years of selective breeding have led these dogs to suffer from many genetic health conditions including brachycephaly, entropion, allergies, skin disease, bladder stones, and more.

Female English Bulldogs must give birth by cesarean section since the puppies cannot fit through the birth canal, and males often suffer from cryptorchidism, where either one or both testicles fail to descend.
