November 22, 2024 – Gaines Pet Treats LLC issued a voluntary recall of 204, five-ounce bags of Gaines Family Farmstead Chicken Chips treats for dogs due to potential Salmonella contamination.
What You Need to Know About Salmonella Contamination
If your pet has a Salmonella infection, they may become lethargic and have fever, diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, and vomiting. Some less obvious side effects are decreased appetite, fever, and abdominal pain. If your pet has become infected but is still otherwise healthy they can still be carriers of Salmonella and infect other animals or humans. If you know your pet has consumed the recalled product or is experiencing these symptoms, please contact your veterinarian immediately.
If you have products matching the following description and sell by date you should stop feeding them to your cats and dispose of them immediately.

There is a risk to humans from handling these contaminated foods, especially if they have not washed their hands after having contact with the products or surfaces exposed to these pet foods.
If you show signs of infection after contact with recalled products or a pet that has consumed them, contact your healthcare provider.
Dog Foods Recalled
The affected pet food consists of 4-pound (half gallon) cartons of 204, five-ounce bags of Gaines Family Farmstead Chicken Chips treats for dogs.
The product affected comes in a five-ounce bag marked on the back side with lot number 20061124 and an expiration date of 12/11/25.
What to Do Next
Anyone who thinks their pets have become ill after consuming contaminated pet food should first contact their veterinarians.
Consumers are advised to destroy the food in a way that children, pets, and wildlife cannot access and sanitize pet food bowls, cups, and storage containers.
If you have purchased 5-ounce bags of “Gaines Family Farmstead Chicken Chips” stamped with lot 20061124, you should cease using them and contact Gaines at Recall@GainesFamilyFarmstead.com for an immediate refund or replacement.
