Cause of This Dog Treat Recall

The potential for contamination was noted after the company was notified by the Georgia Department of Agriculture when a sample of a single 3-pound bag of the product tested positive for Salmonella.  The company tested multiple samples of the same lot which all returned with negative test results for Salmonella. However, out of an abundance of caution, Sunshine Mills, Inc. has chosen to issue a voluntary recall of the above-referenced lots of Nature’s Menu® Super Premium Dog Food with a Blend of Real Chicken & Quail in furtherance of its commitment to the safety and quality of its products.

What You Need to Know About Salmonella Poisoning

If your pet has Salmonella infection, they may become lethargic and have fever, diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, and vomiting. Some less obvious side affects decreased appetite, fever and abdominal pain. If you pet has become infected but is still otherwise healthy they can still be carriers of Salmonella and infect other animals or humans. If you know your pet has consumed the recalled product, or is currently experiencing any these symptoms, please contact your veterinarian immediately.
