Petco’s Return Policy on Dog Food

Petco has some rules¹ when it comes to returning or exchanging dog food. First, you must provide a receipt of your purchase. If you made an online order, you could also use a copy of your purchase confirmation email. The return must also be completed within 30 days of the date on the receipt.

To prevent the occurrence of excessive returns, Petco reserves the right to limit returns, even if you have a receipt. Therefore, you must also present a government-issued ID with any return or exchange. Petco will scan your ID for fraud protection purposes

Petco is very strict in its return policy and won’t accept returns after the 30 days if you don’t provide a receipt or online confirmation email.

How to Return or Exchange Dog Food with Petco

There are two main ways to return dog food to Petco. First, you can go to any Petco location to return dog food and receive a refund. You can also make exchanges if you’re inside a store.

Petco also accepts returns via mail. Petco.com orders must be returned within 30 days. You can set up a return through Petco.com and send dog food back to the return address:

Petco.com

257 Prospect Plains Road, Ste. B

Cranbury, NJ 05812

Keep in mind that shipping charges are non-refundable.

Returning Prescription Dog Food

While you can return regular dog food at store locations or online, prescription dog food has a different process. Stores cannot accept returns for prescription dog food. You can only return it by shipping it to Petco’s return address.

Make sure to include the original packing slip when returning prescription dog food. Refunds will be issued once the returned item has been received. If you paid an online order with your PayPal account, the refund would go to your PayPal account.

If you have any questions regarding returns and exchanges, you can always contact Petco’s customer service¹.

What to Do with Open Dog Food

If you have dog food and can’t return it to Petco, you can get in touch with your local animal shelter or wildlife rescue to see if they’ll take donations.

It’s not a good idea to show up to a shelter unannounced with dog food. Different organizations will have their own rules on items that they accept. Some shelters will accept open dry dog food, while others will only take unopened packages. Rescues and shelters can also have certain dog food brands that they won’t use. So, if you try to donate any restricted brands, they won’t accept them.

So, if you plan to donate dog food, make sure to check the organization’s website or contact a representative before dropping off the food.

Conclusion

Petco has a very reasonable return policy on dog food. Just make sure to have your receipt or purchase confirmation email and a government-issued ID ready and complete the return within 30 days. If you’re returning prescription dog food, make sure to ship it to Petco’s return center.

If all else fails, you can try donating the food to an animal rescue or shelter. While you won’t receive a refund, you’ll be supporting a good cause, and your dog food won’t go to waste.
