What to Do with Open Dog Food

If you have dog food and can’t return it to Petco, you can get in touch with your local animal shelter or wildlife rescue to see if they’ll take donations.

It’s not a good idea to show up to a shelter unannounced with dog food. Different organizations will have their own rules on items that they accept. Some shelters will accept opened dry dog food, while others will only take unopened packages. Rescues and shelters can also have certain dog food brands that they won’t use. So, if you try to donate any restricted brands, they won’t accept them.

So, if you plan to donate dog food, make sure to check the organization’s website or contact a representative before dropping off the food.
