À la fin du XVIe siècle, un petit nombre de carlins ont commencé à quitter la Chine pour l’Europe, où ils ont été adoptés avec enthousiasme par la classe dirigeante de l’époque en Angleterre, en Espagne et aux Pays-Bas.
