As of August 26, 2021 — Top Quality Dog Food of Hyattsville, MD, is recalling “Beef HVM” 1-pound packages due to the potential of Salmonella spp.Listeria monocytogenes.

What Dog Food Products Have Been Recalled?

Beef HVM 1-pound packages marked with lot #071521 on the bottom right corner of the label are the only item being recalled at this time. No illnesses have been reported to date.Divider 2

Cause of This Dog Treat Recall

The recall was initiated after a routine state surveillance sample showed the presence of SalmonellaListeria monocytogenes, in some 1-pound. packages of Beef HVM.

Top Quality Dog Food has since discontinued the distribution of this batch while FDA and the company continue to investigate the source of the contamination.

What You Need to Know About Salmonella, Listeria monocytogenes in Dogs

Dogs with Salmonella infections may be tired and have diarrhea or bloody stool, fevers, and vomiting are also common symptoms. Some dogs will have a decreased appetite, fever, and abdominal pain.

Even if your dog is infected but still healthy, they can still be carriers and infect other animals or humans.

If your dog has consumed this product and is exhibiting any of these symptoms, please contact your veterinarian as soon as possible.

Listeria monocytogenes infections are uncommon in dogs, but it is possible.

Symptoms may include mild to severe diarrhea,  fever, respiratory signs, depression, shock, and potentially even death.

Please monitor yourself and your pets for symptoms if your dog has been exposed to the recalled product.

Where Was the Product Sold?

The recalled product was distributed: DC, MD, VA, DE, PA, MA, CT, and SC.

The product was distributed through mail order and direct delivery from 7/27/21 to 8/2/21

What to Do Now to Keep Your Dog Safe

Consumers should immediately stop feeding the above products to their dogs.

If you find the “Beef HVM” 1-pound package that shows the lot number: 071521 in your possession, we urge you to return it to the place of purchase for a full refund.
