Silver Lining Herbs is an all-natural pet supplement company specializing in herbal products for horses, dogs, and humans. The company was started in 2006 by horse owners who wanted to use the knowledge passed along from their Navajo neighbors to find natural ways to help their pets (and themselves) thrive. A year after launching its horse products, the company added its first canine supplement.

Today Silver Lining Herbs has dozens of dog-specific products to help with a range of issues from allergies to deworming to eye support.

For owners who are looking to limit how many synthetic and chemical products they put in their pet’s system, Silver Lining Herbs is a wonderful choice. These all-natural herbs are specifically formulated to target common issues while supporting whole-body health.

I had the opportunity to try two of their products on my dogs, Ragz and Papyrus. Their Hemp Seed-Coconut Oil supplement noticeably improved both dogs’ mobility in just two weeks. And the Al-R-G Support helped Ragz find relief from itchy skin.

To find out more about these products, how they performed, and who I recommend them for, check out my full Silver Lining Herbs review, below.

    About Silver Lining Herbs

ragz and silver lining herbs products outdoor

    *Use Code EQUINE10

I had the opportunity to try a couple of Silver Lining Herbs’ most popular products on my own dogs. I tested their Hemp Seed-Coconut Oil supplement on both my dogs since they are getting up there in age and need all the joint and immune support they can get. I also tested the Al-R-G Support on Ragz, my Dalmatian mix, since she has been struggling with itchy skin.

Before we get into my personal experience with the products, let’s take a closer look at what this company has to offer.

Who Makes Silver Lining Herbs and Where Are They Produced?

Silver Lining Herbs is based out of Buhl, Idaho. All of their pet products are made in the United States and certified by the Natural Animal Supplement Council.

Who Are Silver Lining Herbs Products Best Suited For?

With so many products tailored to support various needs, Silver Lining Herbs is a great option for any pet parent looking to aid or support their pet without turning to drug-based options.

Many of their products provide an effective alternative to treatments that normally involve chemical products with known side effects. Their deworming supplement, for instance, is meant to take the place of chemical roundworm, hookworm, and tapeworm medications that can cause digestive upset, lack of appetite, and vomiting. Like most of their products, this one works by supporting the body’s natural defenses.

Who Might Do Better With a Different Brand?

While the formulas Silver Lining Herbs use are well-suited for all dogs, the way these formulas are delivered makes them a little difficult to give to small dogs and those who are finicky eaters.

Most of the supplements come in capsule form. They are meant to be hidden in a treat or opened and sprinkled on food. The formulas don’t contain any additional flavorings or inactive ingredients.

This means that picky dogs may not take them easily.

The base dose of many of the formulas is made for dogs that weigh 25 to 30 pounds. This makes it difficult to dose small dogs who weigh significantly less.

While I love the unique and effective herb blends this company uses, some dogs may be better off with another option.

Our Experience With Silver Lining Herbs

ragz with silver lining herbs products on couch

    *Use Code EQUINE10

My grandmother was a bit of a witch doctor and my family has always opted for natural remedies whenever possible. So, as you can imagine, I was very excited to try these Navajo and Chinese medicine-inspired products on my dogs.

Ragz, my Dalmatian mix will be turning 13 this year. And Papyrus, my Chihuahua, is 14. They are definitely getting to the age where life is starting to catch up to them a bit.

Because they both have some mobility issues due to joint pain and could use a little boost in the immune department, I used the Hemp Seed-Coconut Oil on both of them.

Ragz has been suffering from itchy skin for some time now. She has no current known topical allergies, but she certainly has sensitive skin and has gone into anaphylaxis in the past after a wasp sting. So we know her immune system is pretty overreactive.

For these reasons, I was excited to try the Al-R-G Support on her.

I used both products daily for about three weeks before writing this review.

After the first two weeks, I noticed a clear improvement in Ragz’s mobility. I had been giving her Rimadyl every morning before our 1.5-mile walk to help with her joint pain. When she started to show less pain in the afternoon, I slowly decreased this.

After three weeks on the Hemp Seed-Coconut Oil, she is only receiving her Rimadyl before big hikes. Thanks to the supplement, she is able to complete our daily walks with minimal limping.

Because of his size and gait, it is much harder to gauge Papyrus’ joint pain levels. But I can say he seems peppier than usual. And both dogs’ coats have gotten noticeably softer since starting the supplement.

The Al-R-G support also seems to be helping Ragz. The product says to expect noticeable results to take up to 30 days. But already I have noticed she is itching less and seems more comfortable.

I empty the capsules directly onto her food each morning and she eats it without complaint.

These products definitely appear to be effective. My only gripes with them center around the dosing amounts.

The lowest dose of the oil is for dogs up to 25 pounds. But given that Papyrus is only 7 pounds, I didn’t feel that giving him the same dose as 30-pound Ragz was the best way to go. For him, I try to do a half-pump into his food each morning.

This is a bit tricky and I am sure it varies a little. Still, the product is easier to dose than the capsules.

The Al-R-G capsules advise one capsule for dogs up to 30 pounds. Again, if I were to use this on my small dog, I would probably try to dump only half the powder into his bowl each day.

All this is to say, it would be nice if Silver Lining Herbs offered more options in terms of concentration. It would also be nice to be able to get the oil in a larger bottle as I would expect large dogs to go through it quickly.

But these really are minor complaints. And given how well these supplements are already working for my dogs, I’d say they are more than worth the drawbacks.

    Conclusion

Overall, I was very happy with how well the Hemp Seed-Coconut Oil and Al-R-G Support supplements seemed to work for my dogs.

Both are made with high-quality medicinal herbs and ingredients right here in the USA. Because they are function-focused, they do not contain flavor enhancers and are not made to be given as treats. But this also means they contain no fillers and are far more concentrated for faster, more noticeable results.

I plan to keep my dogs on these two products and have already ordered some of Silver Lining Herbs’ joint support products to add to their regimen. Given how many products they offer for humans and pets, I am certain these won’t be my last purchase from this company, either!
