Scotchi Puppies

Scotchi puppies are not relatively easy to find since they are a newer designer mixed breed. However, if you are looking for one, check with reputable breeders or rescue organizations. The puppies have a lot of energy (even for puppies!) so be ready to meet their exercise and attention needs if you choose to bring one into your life.

Temperament & Intelligence of the Scotchi 🧠

One of the most fascinating aspects of Scottish Terrier Chihuahua mixes is their unique blend of temperamental traits. Thanks to their Chihuahua heritage, Scotchi are known for their playful and energetic nature. They enjoy playtime and interactive toys.

Scotties are known for their independent thinking, and this trait can be seen in Scotchis as well. They may have a stubborn streak and may need consistent training and socialization.

Are These Dogs Good for Families? 👪

Like both parent breeds, these mixes are often fiercely loyal to their families. They can be protective and may develop a strong bond with one particular family member. Despite their independent streak, Scotchis are often affectionate and enjoy cuddle time with their human companions.

Their keen sense of alertness makes them excellent watchdogs. They are quick to sound the alarm if they sense anything unusual.

Does This Breed Get Along With Other Pets?

Scotchis are best kept as an only dog and can adapt to living with cats. They should not live with pets like guinea pigs or hamsters because of their Scottish terrier heritage; they might try to harm them.

Early socialization is essential to ensure they get along well with other pets and are comfortable in various social situations.

Things to Know When Owning a Scotchi

Food & Diet Requirements 🦴

Feed your Scotchi high-quality dog food appropriate for their size, age, and activity level. Please consult your vet for recommendations; however, due to their small size, you will probably feed them about a cup of food throughout the day. Anything more may cause obesity.

Exercise 🐕

These dogs have moderate exercise needs. Aim to give your Scotchi at least 15 minutes of exercise a day. Daily walks and playtime in a secure yard will help them burn off energy. If you live in an apartment, invest in some toys that you can use to play with them inside.

Training 🎾

Early and consistent training is crucial due to their independent nature. Positive reinforcement techniques work well, such as verbal praise and small treats. As mentioned before, your Scotchi may have inherited the Chihuahua’s stubbornness, so be firm but consistent. And, of course, start training early.

Grooming ✂️

Grooming requirements can vary depending on their coat type. Regular brushing and occasional baths are typically necessary.

Health and Conditions ❤️

Regular vet check-ups, vaccinations, and dental care are essential to keep them healthy. Like many small breeds, they can be prone to dental issues. In addition to dental issues, here are some of the issues that may affect your Scotchi:

Minor Conditions
  • Allergies
  • Obesity
  • Dental issues
Serious Conditions
  • Patellar luxation
  • Hip dysplasia
  • Hypoglycemia
  • Von Willebrand’s disease
  • Collapsed trachea

Male vs Female

Male and female Scotchis have very similar temperaments and traits and both sexes are sought after as pets. No matter which sex you choose, you will need to remember that males and females need the same food, exercise, grooming, and training.
