Bonus: The Most Popular Alaskan Dog Name
White Fang
Have you read the book or seen the movie? If you haven’t, put it on your list. The beloved tale written by Jack London in 1906 follows a wild-wolfdog on his adventures during the Gold Rush in the 1800s, through the Yukon and Alaska. Many think it is based on a true story, but even though it is a work of fiction, we recommend watching it before you decide on an Alaskan name for your pup. You will likely end up falling in love with this one.
Finding the Right Alaskan Name for Your Dog
There’s a lot to think about when naming a dog, especially if you’re looking for meaning instead of just something that rolls nicely off the tongue. Hopefully, our list of Alaskan names for your dog has inspired you, though, and you’re ready to pick a name for your Husky, Malamute, sled dog, or any pup that will remind you of Alaska.
There are a few helpful tricks you can use that will lead you and your new pup to the right name! Be mindful that this should be a fun process, so above all else – have fun and do your best not to overthink it.
- Ask for opinions – recruit your family members, or closest friends to weigh in on the few that have narrowed it down to. Chances are they will have plenty of input! If you have conflicting opinions, move on to our next tip!
- Test out each contender – if you say each of the names out loud, you might get a better feeling of how they will sound in action. You could also have your pup test them out too. Try saying your favorites aloud when you have your dog’s full attention – a tail wag may mean they are curious about a name! If they simply give no response or walk away, we would guess that they don’t love that option.
- Keep it simple – your dog will become more familiar and respond quicker with a simple name. If you wish to give them a longer, interesting name, make sure that you can create a short, one or two syllable, nickname to use on the daily.
If you’re still searching for gold, fear not! There are plenty more names where these came from. Take a peek at one of our other extensive dog name lists below. Happy hunting!
