    Laifug M1143

    Check Price on Chewy

The Laifug Large Dog Bed tops our list of the best dog beds for big dogs. This bed comes in a 50 X 36 X 10-inch size and your pick of gray or chocolate. You can also purchase a Christmas cover. It has dual headrests that are different sizes to accommodate all snoozing pups.

On one end, you have a 2.5-inch rest; on the other, you have a 4-inch bolster, all on top of orthopedic memory foam. The mattress is split between 30D foam and 40D memory foam. The Laifug is durable and guaranteed to keep its shape for 3 years.

It is comfortable and provides support for a senior pup with joint pain. The bed has a waterproof liner in case of accidents, and the cover is 100% microfiber, which is soft and comfortable. Plus, it won’t slip around on the floor.

The cover on the bed is water-resistant and durable. It’s resistant to rips, stains, smells, and excess fur. You can toss it in the washing machine, and it closes with a hidden zipper, so it won’t scratch your floors. The cover is also easy to spot-clean.

Overall, we think this is the best large dog bed on the market right now.

    Pros
    • Durable
    • Supportive and comfortable
    • Water-resistant
    • Removable and washable cover
    • Hidden zipper
    • Slip-proof
    Cons
    • Nothing we can see

    2. Petsure Memory Foam Large Dog Bed – Best Value

    Petsure

If you need an affordable dog bed for a big dog, the Petsure Memory Foam Dog Bed is a great choice. It features a 2.5-inch memory foam base and a non-slip bottom to keep it in place. The top is made of a micro Sherpa material that is very soft and comfortable, and you have your choice of gray or denim for the lower layer.

The faux linen bottom is stain, fur, and water-resistant. The entire cover is removable and easy to wash, as well. You can throw it in the washing machine or spot-clean small areas. The bed also has bolsters on three sides with a tri-side hidden zipper for easy assembly. As a bonus, the bolsters are removable and washable, too.

The Petsure bed is durable. It won’t tear or rip even with a rambunctious pup. It comes in medium, large, and extra-large sizes. The only apparent drawback is that although the cover is water-resistant, the mattress does not have a waterproof liner. Otherwise, this is the best dog bed for large dogs for the money.

    Pros
    • Durable
    • Comfortable and Supportive
    • Removable and washable cover
    • Detachable headrest
    • Non-slip bottom
    Cons
    • No waterproof liner

    3. K9 Ballistics Dog Bed – Premium Choice

    K9 Ballistics

The K9 Ballistics Dog Bed is an excellent option if you have a canine that likes to spread out. Although the mattress is more costly, it is a flat-style bed made of CertiPUR-US memory foam that is super comfortable and supportive. It has a waterproof removable cover that won’t rip, either.

The bed’s interior is made of ripped foam, making it a great nesting bed. As mentioned, the cover will not tear and is made of ballistic, durable material. You can throw the cover in the washing machine, and it doesn’t hold stains or smells.

The K9 bed has a non-slip bottom. The zippers are hidden with Velcro folds, and the mattress is made in the USA with no glue or other toxic materials. The bed has a waterproof lining in the interior and comes in 15 colors and styles.

One downside is that it can be difficult to get the foam portion back into the cover. On the other hand, the cover is easy to spot-clean. The K9 comes in five sizes to accommodate all pets. Overall, this is a great chew-proof design.

    Pros
    • Durable chew and rip-proof
    • Water-resistant and removable cover
    • Non-slip bottom
    • Supportive nesting memory foam
    • Machine washable
    Cons
    • Hard to get cover back on the foam

    4. Friends Forever Large Dog Bed

    Friends Forever

If you have a dog that enjoys their turn and dig ritual before going to sleep, the Friends Forever PET63PC4290 Dog Bed is a suitable option. This mattress has bolsters on three sides, and it comes in either brown, tan, gray, or cream. The polyester-filled sides are very comfortable, and the human-grade mattress is constructed of four-inch foam.

The Friends Forever bed comes in small, large, extra-large, and jumbo. However, You should note that the laying surface is smaller than on other beds due to the overstuffed sides. That being said, it has a water-resistant liner and cover.

The top cover of the mattress is soft and durable. It is resistant to fur, stains, and smells. You can also take it off and toss it in the washing machine. The bottom of the pet lounge is slip-resistant. What’s more, the zipper is made of YKK pure metal for durability. Unfortunately, the zipper does have the capacity to scratch your floor if the bed is being dragged. Other than that, this is a good bed for your pet.

    Pros
    • Durable
    • Comfortable and supportive
    • Water and stain-resistant cover
    • Machine washable
    • Non-slip bottom
    Cons
    • Smaller flat surface
    • The zipper can scratch the floor

    5. PetFusion Ultimate Large Dog Bed

    PetFusion PF-IBL1

The PetFusion PF-IBL1 Ultimate Dog Bed is another excellent bed for dogs that need neck and head support. It has comfortable cushions on three sides that are “green” and made of recycled material.

This bed is made of four-inch memory foam with rubber pads underneath, so it can’t skid or slip. The cover is made of a soft and comfortable polyester and cotton blend twill. It is also tear and water-resistant, plus it can be removed. Be aware that washing the cover tends to remove the rubber backing, making the bed slide around quite a bit.

The PetFusion bed comes in four sizes, and you can choose from gray, silver, and chocolate colors. It has a hidden, heavy-duty zipper, and you won’t have any trouble with stubborn smells. The only other issue is that the bed does not have a waterproof liner to help with moisture that the cover can’t handle.

    Pros
    • Durable
    • Tear and water-resistant cover
    • Machine washable
    • Comfortable and supportive
    Cons
    • Bottom slides after washing
    • No waterproof liner

    6. Brindle Memory Foam Dog Bed

    Brindle BRMMSP30SD

If you have a longer-bodied pet that likes to snuggle, you should check out the Brindle BRMMSP30SD Memory Foam Dog Bed. It is made with three inches of shredded memory foam, and it does not have bolsters to get in the way of stretching out.

Available in four colors, you can choose from seven sizes so you can pick the right option for your pet. This lightweight mattress can be used freestanding or in a crate. It has a soft micro-suede cover that is removable and washable.

Unfortunately, the cover is not as durable as some other beds. It can rip easily, and it is not recommended for any pets that like to chew. Also, it attracts fur and odors. Other than that, the Brindle bed is breathable yet warm.

This flat-style mattress will stay warm in the winter and cool in the summer. It also features a hidden zipper that doesn’t tear up your floors. Due to the shredded inner material, it can lose its shape. Also, it’s not water resistant.

    Pros
    • Soft and comfortable
    • Breathable
    • Removable and machine washable cover
    • Hidden zipper
    Cons
    • The cover will rip and tear
    • No water-resistance
    • Cover attracts smells and fur

    7. MidWest Homes Plush Large Dog Bed

    MidWest Homes 40636-SGB

The MidWest Homes 40636-SGB Plush Pet Bed is attractive if you like a pet mattress that looks stylish in your home. You can choose from a gray, mocha, or CoCo Chic swirl pattern with a plush outer layer of polyester.

You should know that this bed does not have a removable cover; however, the entire mat can be tossed in the washing machine. This is a flat model that does not have any memory foam. Instead, it is made of overstuffed cotton material.

Although the MidWest Homes mattress is durable, the fur-like outer material attracts fur, dirt, and odors. It also has no water resistance or non-slip rubber grips for the bottom. It can be slippery on hardwood floors or tiles.

However, the bed is lightweight and can be used on multiple surfaces. It comes in seven sizes and is very cozy in the cold months.

    Pros
    • Stylish look
    • Cozy and soft
    • Durable material
    • Machine washable
    Cons
    • No water-resistance
    • Attracts fur and smells
    • Not as much support
    • Slips on floor

    8. BarkBox Memory Foam Large Dog Bed

    BarkBox

Do you have a pup that has difficulty getting comfortable because of the temperature? If so, the BarkBox Memory Foam Dog Bed could be a good choice. This is a flat mattress that has 3 inches of memory foam. The top portion of the foam is gel-infused to keep your pet comfortable and not too hot or cold.

The BarkBox comes in nine patterns and colors but only in four sizes. However, it’s not recommended for extra-large pets. Furthermore, the memory foam in this bed is rigid and not comfortable for senior dogs with arthritis or joint pain.

It has a soft fleece cover and a water-resistant inner cover. The outer layer is removable and washable, but the inner liner is not. What’s worse, you should be aware that the cover is difficult to get back on, especially as it can shrink in the wash.

Other than that, the BarkBox bed is durable. The outer cover is soft and comfortable, but it has no slip guard to prevent it from moving around.

    Pros
    • Gel-infused memory foam
    • Durable
    • Machine washable outer cover
    • Water-resistant inner layer
    Cons
    • Hard mattress
    • Difficult to put back on
    • Outer cover shrinks in the wash
    • Not slip-resistant
    • Not recommended for extra-large or senior dogs

    9. BarksBar Gray Orthopedic Big Dog Bed

    BarksBar

In the number nine spot, we have the BarksBar Gray Orthopedic Dog Bed. This pet lounge comes with a cream top and a quilted, gray bottom layer. It is a stylish and visually attractive option, but the cream top side becomes dirty quickly.

Available in medium and large, this is another bed not recommended for extra-large dogs. The mattress features bolsters on all four sides, making the inner space small. On the other hand, the outer cover is made of soft polyester that can be removed and machine-washed. You will have to air-dry the cover, however.

With 4 inches of solid orthopedic foam, the mattress is hard and can be uncomfortable. Conversely, the foam also breaks down quickly and does not hold its shape for long. The BarksBar has no water resistance in the cover or inner layers, either.

On a brighter note, the headrests are comfortable, yet the fabric is not overly durable. It is also very difficult to put this bed together as you have to thread the bolsters through the material. However, it has non-slip grips on the bottom.

    Pros
    • Comfortable bolsters
    • Non-slip bottom
    • Machine washable
    Cons
    • Hard to get cover on bolsters
    • Material is not durable
    • Foam is hard and breaks down
    • Not recommended for extra-large dogs
    • Small inner space

    10. Bedsure Large Dog Bed

    Bedsure

Our least favorite option for your large dog is the Bedsure Large Dog Bed. This is a reversible option that is very good in theory. It has one Sherpa fleece side that is warm and cozy in the winter. The opposite side is made of Oxford material that is breathable and cool.

Unfortunately, the Sherpa side of the bed attracts and holds stains, slobber, smells, and fur. Also, the fleece is very slippery on the floor when the Oxford side is up. The top Oxford layer, although cool, is not comfortable, and it also gets dirty quickly.

The Bedsure is a flat mattress with the standard cream-colored Sherpa on one side and your choice of gray or denim on the opposite side. It comes in medium, large, or extra-large. The bed is made of egg-crate memory foam, which is only 2 inches thick. It does not offer a lot of support and is quite uncomfortable.

The cover can be removed and machine washed. It is also advertised to be water-resistant, but unfortunate circumstances have proved that to be untrue. For another thing, the rubber grips on the Oxford side are not effective at stopping the bed from sliding.

To add insult to injury, the cover loses shape in the wash and will be difficult to wrestle back on the mattress. Lastly, the zipper on the Bedsure is hidden, but it is plastic and will separate with only a little force.

Overall, the construction is not durable and is our least favorite option for a large dog bed.

    Pros
    • Dual-sided
    • Machine washable
    Cons
    • Not durable
    • Hard and uncomfortable
    • No water-resistance
    • Zipper separates
    • The cover is hard to get back on
    • Slips on the floor

Buyer’s Guide – Picking the Best Large Dog Bed

What Is the Right Size Bed for Your Dog?

Before heading out to shop, the first thing you need to know is what size you are going to need. You’ll need to measure your dog, but it does not have to be the struggle you envision. Just follow the easy tips below to get the chore done quickly and easily:

Tip One: Use the Right Tools

First and foremost, you need a fabric tape. A ruler or regular measuring tape is not going to cut it. If you don’t have one, you can use a string, a shoelace, or anything of the same structure. Just make sure it is long enough.

Tip Two: Know When to Measure

The best time to get the necessary numbers is when your pet is either eating or sleeping.  As long as they are calm,  you should be okay.

Tip Three: Know What to Measure

You want to get two measurements: the length and height. For the length, you’ll measure from the tip of the nose to the base of the tail. For the height, measure from the top of the shoulder to the floor.

Tip Four: Determining the Right Size

When looking for a mattress, you want to take their length and add about 2 inches. If you have ever slept with your feet off the bed, you know how it feels for your pup to have their tailbone on the floor.

Tip Five: Determining the Comfortable Size

When determining the width of the bed, you may have noticed the measurement we recommended is not the standard. Typically, you will be instructed to measure from shoulder to shoulder parallel to the floor, which will be your width. For the most part, that is far too small. It is better to measure their height and use that number for the width.

Tip Six: Other Numbers to Know

You also want to get your pet’s weight. Many manufacturers have a weight limit on their beds, so you must ensure your dog doesn’t exceed it.

    Divider 5

    Tips When Shopping

Now that you know the right size, you can select the style you want. Below, we have the other characteristics that you need to consider.

    • Overall Size: As mentioned above, you want to ensure their bed is big enough. You also need a bed that will be used not just for sleeping but for lounging and taking it easy.
    • Sleeping Patterns: Each dog has their own sleeping patterns. This can tell you a lot about the bed you should get for them. For example, some dogs like to lean against something when they sleep. Beds with bolsters work better for those pups. A flat surface may be better if your dog likes stretching out. Just remember, even if you get a rounded, cushioned design, your pup should still be able to stretch out.
    • Age and Health: Older dogs are more prone to joint pain and ailments such as arthritis. Again, memory foam beds that are soft and supportive are usually best. The same goes for beds that have headrests. You can find a mattress that is long and flat and still have a cushy bolster on one side.
    • Individual factors:  If you have a pup that has accidents or one that slobbers, water resistance is vital. Chewers will need something durable, while short-haired dogs may need a warmer fabric.
    • General Use: The last thing to remember is where the bed will be used. Beds that are going in a crate are better off flat, but you can find ones that have smaller bolsters. Also, a lightweight mattress is convenient if you travel.

Overall, finding the best extra large dog bed for your four-legged friend can take some thought. Determining the right size and style will only benefit your pet in the long run.
