  • The 10 Best Dog Poop Bags

    1. AmazonBasics Dog Waste Bags – Best Overall

    AmazonBasics Dog Waste Bags

An all-in-one solution, the AmazonBasics dog waste bags include everything you need to clean up after your dog. For the sake of convenience, a dispenser is included that’s sized to fit one roll of bags. Each roll contains 15 bags, so you should only have to change the roll in the dispenser about once a week. The dispenser also has a carabiner-style clip attached, so you don’t have to carry it in your hands. Instead, you can clip it on your belt loop, your dog’s collar, or anywhere else that makes sense.

We had one complaint with the perforations. On two of our rolls, the perforations were not deep enough or properly placed, so when we removed a bag it ripped the bottom. Luckily, we noticed before attempting to use it, and avoided a messy situation! We like that these bags include an EPI additive that makes them biodegradable. Even better, they’re made of polyethylene to reduce odor, and for added strength. Altogether, they were our preferred choice of the bunch.

To conclude: we think these are the best dog poop bags out there.

    Pros
    • Includes dispenser with carrying clip
    • EPI additive for biodegradable bags
    • Polyethylene bags reduce odors
    Cons
    • Some perforations didn’t work and ripped the bags

    2. Earth Rated Dog Poop Bags – Best Value

    Earth Rated Dog Poop Bags

The Earth Rated BIO120 dog poop bags offered reliable performance at an affordable price. The lavender scent minimized the odor of waste when carrying a full bag home. Thankfully, they’re 100% leak-proof, so you don’t have to worry about any disgusting accidents in your pocket or hand! However, they’re not biodegradable, which is something we prefer since we use so many poop bags. They’re made from recycled materials, which does mitigate this flaw somewhat. While many other options included a dispenser, the Earth Rated dog poop bags did not, so they’re best as a refill if you already have a dispenser. Considering the performance you get for the low price, we think these are the best dog poop bags for the money.

    Pros
    • Very cheap
    • Lavender scent available
    • 100% leak-proof guaranteed
    • Made from recycled materials
    Cons
    • Not biodegradable EPI
    • Doesn’t include a dispenser

    3. PET N PET Dog Waste Bags – Premium Choice

PET N PET Dog Waste Bags

Our premium choice pick is the unscented dog waste bags from PET N PET. Though they’re a bit pricier than some of the other bags we tested, they also come in a very large quantity: 1,080 bags in total. This should be plenty to keep you supplied for a long time, likely longer than a year unless you have many dogs to clean up after.

It’s important that your waste bags don’t leak or you’ll certainly be disgusted with the result. To that end, the PET N PET bags are heavy-duty and completely leak-proof, so you never have to worry about a smelly surprise waiting for you. These bags are roomy enough that you’ll easily be able to tie a knot in the top to hold in the waste. Not all the bags we tried had enough space for this, but we think it’s an essential feature. They were large enough to fit easily over everyone’s hands, so no messes were made.  Overall, we think they’re worth the cost, which is why they’ve earned our third-place recommendation.

    Pros
    • 1,080 bags total
    • Heavy-duty and Leak-proof
    • Room to tie a knot
    Cons
    • More expensive

    4. Downtown Pet Supply Dog Poop Bags

Downtown Pet Supply Dog Poop Bags

If you prefer festive colors and prints on your poop bags, then the Downtown Pet Supply waste bags are right up your alley. With eight different color and pattern options to choose from, you can even match the bags to your dog’s leash! This set includes a dispenser in the shape of a dog bone with a clip attached for easy carrying. It will hold one roll that contains 20 bags.

These bags are available in quantities from 180 bags up to 2,200 bags depending on how prepared you prefer to be. They’re a little smaller than other bags, so some of us with larger hands had a more difficult time with them. That said, they’re also very strong. In fact, each bag can hold up to 10 pounds, so you can be sure that a few turds won’t break them! Unfortunately, they’re not biodegradable, a flaw that helps keep them out of our top recommendations.

    Pros
    • Multiple colors and prints are available
    • Includes dispenser with clip
    • Each bag holds up to 10 pounds
    Cons
    • A little smaller than other bags
    • Not biodegradable

    5. Pogi’s Parent Dog Poop Bags

    Pogi’s Parent Poop Bags

Most of the bags we tested came in small rolls that are intended to fit inside a little bag dispenser. The Pogi’s Parent bags come in a large box and you’re supposed to just bring one with you each time. We definitely prefer the dispenser-style rolls, which is one reason these bags won’t be climbing higher on this list. We liked that they’re scented, which helps with the unpleasant odor on the walk back, but the scent was too strong for some of us with sensitive noses.

We liked the ears on top that made it very easy to tie these bags. However, the tradeoff is that these are very small and thin. Those of us with larger hands weren’t able to use these bags. None of them ripped in our testing, but they’re so thin that it was a bit of a worry. These were also some of the most expensive bags we tested. We’d go as far as to call them overpriced, considering the small quantity you get for what you pay.

    Pros
    • Scented
    • Has ears to tie
    Cons
    • Not rolled for a dispenser
    • Expensive for how many you get
    • Smaller than competitors

    6. ShoppingLion Poop Bags for Dogs

    ShoppingLion Poop Bags for Dogs

Available in quantities of up to 1,040 bags, the ShoppingLion poop bags should last a long time. We like that they include biodegradable EPI technology. They come with a dispenser that has a carabiner clip attached, so you can easily hang it from your belt loop or wherever else you prefer. That said, the carabiner was weak and cheap, and it broke the second time we tried to clip it on.

The ShoppingLion poop bags did very little to contain the scent, and you can smell the doo-doo by the time you get home. They’re also very difficult to separate, a problem exacerbated by the fact that one hand is holding your dog, leaving just one hand to use for getting a bag and collecting the waste. Though they’re priced pretty fairly, we think that there are better options available for the money.

    Pros
    • Dispenser included with a carabiner clip
    • Up to 1,040 bags in a pack
    • EPI technology makes them biodegradable
    Cons
    • Can smell the poop through the bag
    • Bags are difficult to open
    • Clip-on dispenser broke

    7. Doggy Do Good Poop Bags for Dogs

Doggy Do Good Biodegradable Dog Poop Bags

Everything is going green these days and dog poop bags are no different. We appreciate a biodegradable waste bag, but the Doggy Do Good poop bags take it to a whole new level. They’re made from cornstarch and break down in just 90 days! This may be a real upside if you’re concerned about the effects of plastic on the environment. They’re very thick and leak-proof, so you’re not sacrificing quality to help the environment. More than just biodegradable, these are also ASTM D6400 certified compostable.

While we appreciate how environmentally friendly the Doggy Do Good biodegradable poop bags are, we also think they’re overpriced. They cost nearly twice as much as competing brands that offer twice as many for the price. Other biodegradable bags may not break down in 90 days, but they still break down much quicker than plastic, and they make more sense to us financially.

    Pros
    • Biodegradable and certified compostable
    • Made from cornstarch
    Cons
    • Overpriced
    • Small quantity

    8. Pets N Bags Dog Poop Bags

Pets N Bags Biodegradable Dog Poop Bags

These eco-friendly bags from Pets N Bags are 100% oxo-biodegradable. They’re also very expensive, costing the same as other packages that included almost four times as many bags. That said, a dispenser is included with these bags, but it’s very cheap and doesn’t make up for the price difference. It’s made of brittle plastic and it cracked the very first time we used it.

Our biggest complaint with these bags is that they’re simply unreliable. The seams are weak, and we had several fail, leaving a nasty mess that came as a surprise. The perforations were also suspect. The bottom of the bag ripped out when we separated it from the roll. Naturally, this meant it was now useless for picking up waste. We’d suggest saving your money and getting something with a higher quantity, and more reliable bags.

    Pros
    • Biodegradable
    • Includes dispenser
    Cons
    • The dispenser is made of brittle plastic and can crack
    • Weak seams fail commonly
    • Perforation tended to rip the bottom of the bag

    9. Paws & Pals Poop Bags for Dogs

Paws & Pals Poop Bags for Dogs

Though they’re a bit overpriced for how many you receive, we had high hopes for the Paws & Pals poop bags. We liked the idea of the ocean scent, though, in reality, it didn’t do anything to block the waste odor, which is what we were hoping it would do. A dispenser with a carabiner clip is included for your convenience. These bags are also fully biodegradable so you’re not contributing to the build-up of plastic by using them.

You can tell as soon as it’s on your hand that these are thin and flimsy. They ripped far too often, tearing anytime they came in contact with the ground. This meant we had to be very careful or a mess was imminent. The perforations were also lacking and gave us issues when trying to separate the bags. They weren’t our favorites, which is why they’re next to last on our list.

    Pros
    • Ocean scented
    • Biodegradable
    • Includes dispenser
    Cons
    • Overpriced for how many you get
    • Perforations don’t tear easily
    • Too thin and tended to rip
    • Does not block odor

    10. SHAREWIN Doggie Poop Bags

    SHAREWIN Doggie Poop Bags

Rounding out the very bottom of our list, the SHAREWIN doggie poop waste bags are very affordable, but not very reliable. Every roll had several bags that just wouldn’t separate and had to be wasted. Worse, several bags tore at the sides. This was disappointing for a bag that’s advertised as thick and leak-proof. If you accidentally touch the ground while picking up waste with the SHAREWIN bags, expect to have some stinky fingers when you get home. Don’t touch your face for the rest of the walk! Though we like to laugh about it, you probably won’t be laughing if it happens. Instead, we suggest picking a set of poop bags that are guaranteed to keep the poop inside and your hands clean.

    Pros
    • Very cheap
    Cons
    • Some perforations won’t separate
    • Several bags ripped at the sides
    • Rip very easily if you contact the ground

    Summary

When you live in an urban area with your canine companion, you’re going to be using a lot of waste bags to clean up after them. The wrong choice of dog poop bags could result in a terrible mess that you’ll regret instantly. For that reason, our reviews have compared as many of the poop bags on the market as we could to help you determine which bags are the best choice. Our favorite overall was the AmazonBasics dog waste bags. They’re made from polyethylene to reduce odor with an EPI additive so they are biodegradable. To top it off, a dispenser with carrying clip is also included.

The dog poop bags from Earth Rated were our pick for the best value thanks to their excellent performance and low-price combination. They’re guaranteed to be 100% leak-proof, constructed from recycled materials, and even available in a pleasant lavender scent. Our premium choice pick from PET N PET includes 1,080 heavy-duty and completely leak-proof bags with enough room to tie a knot at the top. All three will make excellent choices and we’re comfortable recommending any of them.
