Nom Nom is a subscription dog food service that provides freshly made meals that are specifically pre-portioned for your dog’s caloric needs. Not only does Nom Nom suggest formulas specifically for your canine, but they also send the food in pre-portioned bags so you’ll know exactly how much to give your dog.

As you might imagine, Nom Nom is considered a premium food. For that reason, it is a bit more expensive than most other dog foods out there. However, the cost can vary quite a bit depending on the size of your dog, and the exact prices are not advertised on their website—you’re basically flying blind until you reach the payment page of their sign-up system. The short answer is that Nom Nom’s dog food can cost between $86 and $595 per month, depending on the size of your dog.

For this reason, we decided to write an article that makes the payment system a bit more evident.

Why Choose Nom Nom?

There are several reasons why you might want to choose Nom Nom for your canine, even if it is a bit expensive. It is made and frozen before being shipped to your house. Therefore, it is not as processed as other options on the market.

Secondly, their formulas are very simple and always include meat as the first ingredient. As you might imagine, this is particularly helpful for dogs with sensitivities, as it makes it very easy to avoid certain ingredients.

They also offer a variety of different formulas, including a formula for every major protein. They even have a pork option, which is great for dogs that are allergic to beef and chicken.

Nom Nom is particularly great because it takes your dog into account. When you sign up, they ask you a range of questions about your canine and then provide a recommended formula based on those questions. They also adjust portion size based on these questions, so you’ll only be feeding your pooch exactly what they need.

Each portion comes in its own bag, so you don’t have to do any measuring. Compared to other fresh dog food services, this makes the process of actually feeding your dog very straightforward.

How Much Does Nom Nom Cost?

Figuring out how much Nom Nom costs requires that you fill out a long-form about your dog—so we did it for you to provide concrete price ranges. However, your exact price may differ depending on your exact answers to the questions, such as any underlying health problems your pet has.

After playing around with the signup sheet many times, we came up with the following prices for a month’s supply of food:
  • 7-Pound Male: $86
  • 65-Pound Female: $299
  • 170-Pound Male: $595

As you can see, the price gets gradually higher the bigger your dog is. You should also keep in mind that we did not provide a breed for any of the dogs we entered. Therefore, your price may also differ if you select a breed for your dog. It all depends on the amount of food they end up needing.

If your dog is under or overweight, your price will be affected as well. Of course, overweight dogs need less food, while underweight dogs will need more.

Based on this information, your prices can differ substantially.

Now that you know how much it costs, let’s compare Nom Nom to similar, premium dog foods. All prices are calculated assuming a normal weight, adult dog of 30-pounds.

Premium Dog Food Price Comparison

Food Type Brand Price Per Week (estimated)
Dry Food Canidae PURE Grain-Free $13.02
Wet Food Castor & Pollux Organic $46.20
Freeze-Dried Stella & Chewy’s $84
Dehydrated The Honest Kitchen $17.50
Fresh Ollie $37.20
Fresh Nom Nom $38.40
Fresh Spot and Tango $55.07

Additional Costs to Consider

For the most part, there are no surprise fees when signing up for Nom Nom and you can change recipes between shipments for free.

Furthermore, some meals do cost more than others. The Chicken Cuisine recipe seems to be the least expensive, for instance. Therefore, you may want to play with the recipes and compare your final costs if you’re looking to save a bit of money. (If they listed their costs plainly next to each recipe, this would be a lot easier!)

How Much Is the Nom Nom Supplemental Plan?

Nom Nom knows that feeding your dog only fresh food can get very expensive. Therefore, they provide a supplemental plan that provides half portions. In other words, you would feed your dog half Nom Nom and half of their regular dog food, lowering prices substantially.

You can generally calculate how much a half portion would cost by simply cutting the full amount cost in half—after all, they are sending you half of the food.

With that said, the supplemental plan is only provided for dogs that are large enough to eat a minimum amount of food. Therefore, very small dogs are not eligible. They simply eat too little for the company to portion up half a meal.

When Does Food Get Shipped?

There are several shipping options that you can choose from when signing up. As a default, Nom Nom has a bi-weekly shipping and billing schedule. However, you can adjust this to weekly or monthly shipping. Food is more expensive if you get it more often. Therefore, the monthly option is the cheapest.

With that said, if your dog is very small, they may default you to monthly shipping and billing. However, you can change your shipping options for your smaller dogs as well.

Conclusion

Nom Nom was one of the first fresh dog food delivery services on the market. While there are now several different services out there, it continues to be one of the top options.

However, their prices aren’t exactly straightforward. You won’t see how much your dog’s food costs until you’re checking out, which is the very last step in their sign-up process. We hope that this article helped you get a firmer handle on the costs and determine whether they are in your budget before you had to go through the whole sign-up process.

With that said, all the costs in this article are estimates. There are a lot of factors that determine the cost of the food, including when the rate you choose to get it shipped and the recipe you select. Your dog’s information, like their activity level and weight, also affects the overall costs.

Still, the costs listed in this article should be pretty close.
