This celebration is relatively new. It was started in 2020 by Nadia Alterio, who was Miss British Columbia. She declared May 14 as International Chihuahua Day on her blog, as she is a big lover of Chihuahuas.
This day was chosen simply because it was her dog’s birthday.

Chihuahuas are the smallest dog breed. They’re also one of the oldest, though we don’t know exactly when they were first bred.
