The Vizsladoodle is as unique and interesting as its name, and as you can imagine, this mix is relatively rare and not well-known in all areas of the world. Despite its rarity, the Poodle Vizsla Mix is an incredible canine with appealing traits from its parent breeds.

A Vizsladoodle is created by crossing a Vizsla dog with a Standard Poodle, but a Vizsla and a Toy Poodle or Mini Poodle can also occasionally breed together. There is very little that is known about the exact origin of this breed. They were believed to be bred in the 1980s when other Poodle mixes became popular.

The Vizsla and the Poodle on their own are very popular breeds. Both these breeds are highly intelligent, and with the obedience and work ethic of the Vizsla combined with the grace and confidence of a Poodle, this designer mix makes an exceptional pet.

Poodle Vizsla Mix Breed Puppies

Vizsladoodle puppies, like most other puppies, will be sure to steal most of your attention. They require lots of love, attention, playtime, training, and socialization. Vizsladoodles are rare hybrids that you will usually find from a breeder.  It is also not impossible to find them from a rescue shelter, but either way, it is important to do your research and find a reputable place to adopt or buy your Vizsladoodle puppy.

The cost for one of these unique cuties will vary greatly depending on the breed’s age, breeder, location, and lineage. It is also important to remember that over and above the cost of the puppy is the addition of the initial vet visit and inoculations, beds, food bowls, and toys. Once the initial setup costs are taken care of, you must factor in monthly costs such as food and pet insurance. It may seem overwhelming at first, but the years of unconditional love and companionship make it worth it.

Temperament & Intelligence of the Poodle Vizsla Mix

The Poodle Vizsla Mix is an energetic, playful, affectionate, charismatic, and very smart breed. It carries all the great traits from its parents and makes a remarkable companion for families of all sizes and singles. Because its parents are incredibly intelligent, the Vizsladoodle does not take long to potty-train and is relatively easy to train.

Are These Dogs Good for Families? 👪

Vizsladoodles are exceptional family companions, and they adore children. But like any family with kids adopting a new pet, the children need to be taught how to behave with and handle puppies and dogs. They love long walks in the park, playing fetch, and any activity involving being with their humans. They have a great adoration for their family members, and they are eager to please.

Does This Breed Get Along With Other Pets?

Vizsladoodles will generally get along with other pets as long as they are well-socialized and trained from a young age. Because the dog is full of energy and playful, it may be a little overbearing for a cat, but that is something that most cats can handle as they usually stay out of the way. However, they generally get along with other dogs and can become good friends.

Things to Know When Owning a Poodle Vizsla Mix:

Food & Diet Requirements 🦴

One of the most crucial choices you can make as a pet owner is choosing the proper diet for your pup. Your Vizsladoodle will require a high-quality, complete diet that is age appropriate. It should be formulated to meet your dog’s nutritional needs for proteins, fats, carbohydrates, vitamins, and minerals.

Commercially processed canned or kibble foods are convenient, consistent, easily accessible, and affordable, and they go through a quality control process. When purchasing dog food, it is recommended that you choose one that meets the specifications of the Association of Animal Feed Control Officials (AAFCO).

You can feed your dog twice daily as an adult, but puppies require at least three meals daily to assist their development. The dog food has recommended serving sizes, depending on your dog’s age and weight. However, if you’re concerned that the portion is inadequate, you can contact your veterinarian for serving suggestions. Your Vizsladoodle will also benefit from puzzle feeders since it is intelligent and requires appropriate mental stimulation.

Exercise 🐕

Due to their substantial energy levels, Vizsladoodles require at least one hour of daily exercise. This can be broken up into two daily sessions of 30 minutes, depending on the age and stage of growth. The dog loves to walk, run, and play, and if it is anything like its Poodle parent, it may love to swim! They will thrive with an active family that will provide plenty of physical and mental stimulation.

A Vizsladoodle that is not adequately exercised may get bored and direct its pent-up energy into destructive activities, such as chewing your shoes or digging up your garden!

Training 🎾

It is not surprising that the Vizsladoodle is intelligent, coming from a mix of two very intelligent breeds. They are devoted, eager to please their humans, and easy to train.

Early socialization and training are highly recommended to get your pup off to a good start. They excel at obedience training and thrive from lots of mental stimulation. Positive reinforcement will help greatly for successful training, so lots of praise and treats are the name of the game.

Grooming ✂️

Poodles are famous for having distinctive curls, but Vizslas have a silky and smooth coat; therefore, it’s likely that the coat of your Vizsladoodle will be a combination of the two. Their grooming requirements are minimal but shouldn’t be overlooked. Regardless of whether they inherit a coat that is more Poodle-like or Vizsla-like, you will only need to brush them a few times per week to keep shedding to a minimum. They shouldn’t be bathed too often to avoid irritating the skin unless they end up muddy or extremely dirty after a fun day.

If your Vizsladoodle has a coat more like its Poodle parent, it may require a haircut every 6 to 8 months to keep it neat and prevent matting. Their teeth will also require at least a weekly brushing, and their nails and ears should be checked regularly.

Health and Conditions 🏥

A Vizsladoodle that has been given proper care can live for 12 to 14 years. They are generally healthy, but like all canines, they may be prone to specific health conditions. Although you may never be entirely certain of your dog’s health in the future, leading a healthy lifestyle and having regular checks with the vet will help prevent issues from developing. Finding a reputable breeder will also help reduce the chance of developing any major health issues since reputable breeders perform genetic testing to ensure their stock is healthy.

Male vs Female

The personality differences between females and intact (non-neutered) males are the most obvious. Male dogs are sometimes more aggressive, possessive, and easily distracted than female dogs. However, males can be more playful, active, and self-reliant.

At the end of the day, it is a personal preference that will determine whether to choose a male or a female, and their temperament and personality are more important than their gender.

3 Little-Known Facts About the Poodle Vizsla Mix

1. Vizsladoodles Make Great Hunting Companions

The Vizsla side of this designer dog was bred for hunting, which makes it an excellent hunting companion! Taking them on hunting trips is a great way to keep them exercised and hone in on their inherited hunting skills.

2. Vizsladoodles Are Vocal

The Vizsla breed is a guard dog, and what good is a guard dog that doesn’t bark? That means that a Vizsladoodle can be a little vocal. However, its bark isn’t too loud or intimidating, but it may be loud enough to agitate close neighbors.

3. They Enjoy Water

Poodles were bred as water hunters, and it’s no secret that this elegant breed enjoys the water. That love for water will often carry through to its designer mix, so incorporating water activities into its exercise routine will be appreciated and well received.
