The 14 Bichon Frise Mixed Dog Breeds

1. Maltichon (Bichon Frise x Maltese)

The Maltichon is a fairly well-known Bichon hybrid, and with the Maltese being a closely related breed, the cross makes for a loving and affectionate animal. Both the parent breeds are lively, cheerful, and friendly dogs that make perfect little pocket-sized companions. These dogs require a great deal of regular maintenance, with daily brushing to prevent matting and knotting. On the plus side, this high maintenance coat is hypoallergenic, so the Maltichon is an ideal choice for owners with allergy issues.

2. Yorkie Bichon (Bichon Frise x Yorkshire Terrier)

While you can be sure that this Yorkshire Terrier hybrid will have remarkably adorable looks, these little pooches are highly intelligent too. Due to their Yorkie heritage, these dogs are loving and affectionate but are still fairly independent and will usually do fine being left alone for short periods. One important point to note is that these dogs are yappers. So, while their size makes them ideal for apartment living, their loud, high-pitched barking needs to be kept under control.

3. Glechon (Bichon Frise x Beagle)

These fun-loving and energetic pooches are a joyful breed that loves to play. Glechons are highly social little dogs that love to be around people and to cuddle on your lap. These gentle dogs are great pets for families, as they get along famously with children. That said, their Beagle heritage can make them stubborn at times and a bit of a challenge to train.

4. Corgi Bichon (Bichon Frise x Corgi)

These charming dogs have a royal history, with the Pembroke Welsh Corgis’ long and well-documented association with Queen Elizabeth II. While they do make great companion dogs, Corgi Bichons have high energy and will need regular exercise. These dogs are also well-known for their mischievous streak and will need to be trained from an early age to prevent them from cementing this habit. They also have a stubborn streak that can make training a challenge, so you’ll need to be extra patient and consistent with this little ball of energy.

5. Shichon (Bichon Frise x Shih Tzu)

This little Shih Tzu hybrid is a fairly new breed and is most recognizable by their round “teddy bear” faces. They are friendly little companions that come in a wide variety of colors, with a fluffy and wavy coat. This thick coat will require regular brushing and if left untrimmed, will eventually reach the ground. This makes them an adorable but fairly high-maintenance pooch that can also be a challenge to train with their often stubborn nature.

6. Bichpoo (Bichon Frise x Poodle)

It doesn’t get much more adorable than this Poodle hybrid, and these pooches resemble a teddy bear more closely than a dog. These dogs have the high intelligence of Poodles mixed with the friendly and loving nature of Bichons, making them ideal little lapdog companions. The mix originated in Australia in the early 1990s and was bred to be a household companion that still had the energy and intellect of larger dogs. The Bichpoo has rapidly grown in popularity, and when you see one, it’s easy to understand why.

7. ChiChon (Bichon Frise x Chihuahua)

These Chihuahua hybrids are well known for being both extremely friendly and unwaveringly loyal. This loyal character often causes them to become extremely attached to their owners, which can be a problem if you are away frequently. They will quickly become your shadow and love nothing more than to be involved in whatever it is you are doing. If you are looking for a watchdog, the ChiChon is not one, as they are known for not being prone to barking.

8. Goldichon (Bichon Frise x Golden Retriever)

Both the Bichon and Golden Retrievers are well known for their gentle and calm temperament, and as you’d imagine, the Goldichon is much the same. This hybrid is fairly rare, but their temperament and characteristics are fairly predictable, considering the parent breed’s similar nature. The Goldichon is likely to be far more playful than other Bichon hybrids, with a thick and fluffy coat to match. These are merry little pooches that are ideal family pets.

9. Doxie-Chon (Bichon Frise x Dachshund)

This perky and energetic hybrid inherits more than just their wiry coat from the Dachshund. They can be a fearless breed, confronting even the biggest dogs with unwavering courage. They become attached to their owners, so they will suffer from separation anxiety when left alone too long. They are also prone to barking, and combined with their somewhat fearless nature, this makes them useful little watchdogs. The Dachshund has a strong prey drive, which can often carry over into a Doxie-chon, so these dogs need to be trained from as early an age as possible.

10. Pushon (Bichon Frise x Pug)

If you are looking for a fluffy Pug, the Pushon is likely as close as you’ll get! These adorable little hybrids have large personalities despite their small stature, and they adore being around people. They are loving and affectionate dogs that are eager to please and are known to perform tricks to get your attention. They can be demanding and somewhat mischievous little pooches when left to their own devices, so early socialization and training are essential.

11. Papichon (Bichon Frise x Papillon)

This rare hybrid of Bichon and Papillon, known as the “butterfly dog” due to their characteristic ears, is a sweet, affectionate, and gentle breed that make great family pets. Papichon dogs are not fond of being left alone, and the furniture in your home may pay the price if you leave at home too long. They will suffer from extreme separation anxiety, so they are not ideal for owners who are out frequently. These friendly pooches love children and will usually take quickly to strangers and other dogs. They are known for excessive barking, especially when left alone, so good training is essential.

12. Frenchie Bichon (Bichon Frise x French Bulldog)

This tiny hybrid inherits a few traits from their French Bulldog genes, including their independent nature. This doesn’t mean they will shy away from attention, but these dogs are generally content to do their own thing. They come in a wide variety of color and pattern combinations and often have the upright “bat-ears” that Frenchies are so well known for. They are cheerful and happy dogs that are rarely aggressive but can be possessive and territorial at times. They are highly intelligent and obedient, but their independent nature can make training a challenge at times.

13. Chonzer (Bichon Frise x Miniature Schnauzer)

The Chonzer is lapdog in every sense of the word and is friendly and affectionate with family and strangers alike. Their Schnauzer heritage makes them highly intelligent little dogs that take quickly to training and easily pick up basic commands. These dogs do have a rat-catching heritage, and this high prey-drive may cause issues among small family pets. Early socialization will mitigate this somewhat, and they will make fast friends with other family pets. They are fairly low-maintenance dogs that don’t require large amounts of grooming or exercise, making them ideal for apartment living.

14. Havachon (Bichon Frise x Havanese)

Havachons are cheerful and playful pooches that are full of energy and known for their innate curious streak. This curiosity often translates into an independent nature, and these dogs are happy to be left wandering around in the yard sniffing out new and interesting scents. They are still affectionate, though, and love to cuddle on the sofa — when it suits them, of course. They are intelligent dogs that take well to training, although they do have a stubborn streak that can also pose a challenge. They are alert animals and make ideal little apartment watchdogs.
