The 9 Burman Cat Colors

1. Seal Point

Seal point is the most common and popular color for the Birman cat. This color closely resembles that of the Siamese and creates a solid cream body with dark brown or nearly black legs, faces, and tail tips. This color variation is particularly striking with their bright blue eyes.

2. Blue

Blue point is another common color for Birman cats. While it’s not truly blue, this color is lighter than seal point with a light gray body and darker gray legs, face, and tail tip. It essentially looks like a faded seal point.

3. Chocolate

The chocolate colorpoint coat is a lighter version of the seal point but still has a browner appearance than the cool grayish blue of blue point. The darker and lighter colors blend seamlessly and don’t have the contrast of the true seal point.

4. Lilac

Lilac colorpoint is a rarer color. Birman kittens are all born white and develop their coloration as they age, but lilac takes longer than other colors. Overall, the lilac Birman is pink-gray with less noticeable points than other colors.

5. Red

Red Birman cats have dark orange points with a cream body color. They stay white for a long period before getting a “mask” of orange around their points. It darkens slightly as they age, but not with as much contrast as seal or blue.

6. Cream

Cream Birman cats are close to the red Birman but lighter overall. Both coat colors have orange tints, but red has a much darker orange.

7. Tortoiseshell

Tortoiseshell Birmans are rare and unique, but they are more of a pattern than a color. They typically have two colors mixed into their points, and like other tortoiseshell cats, 99.9% of them are female. The tortoiseshell pattern can come in cream, seal, blue, red, chocolate, and lilac.

8. Smoke

Smoke is a silvery gray color that’s distinctive among Birman cats. The point coloration is a gray-on-gray with a dark silver for the points on a solid light silver body. The colors have more fluid blending than stark point coloration as well.

9. Tabby

Tabby is more of a pattern than a color. They can come in any of the standard colors for the Birman cat, but they have standard tabby markings like the signature “M” on the forehead. The silver tabby is a unique version of the tabby that’s the smoke color but with tabby markings.
