As much as we wished it were so, Pusheen is not a real cat. Pusheen is an animated cat that was made famous by creators Claire Belton and Andrew Duff with their comic strips on EverydayCute.com in 2010. However, a cat that Belton grew up with heavily influenced the creation of Pusheen.

Pusheen is known as a fictional tabby cat that loves adventure but also loves snacking, blogging, and being lazy. You can watch the relatable cat on a multitude of social media platforms, including YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, and iMessage. You can also use animated GIFs on Facebook. In fact, the Facebook fan base for Pusheen has reached a whopping 9.2 million fans worldwide.

Is Pusheen the Cat Male or Female?

Pusheen is a female tabby cat, and she’s not alone in her adventures. Pip and Stormy, her siblings, accompany her. Stormy, her sister, looks up to Pusheen and enjoys adventures and grooming herself. Pip is the younger brother who loves to follow his older sisters around and ask questions. Pip is furry and aspires to be a wolf when he grows up.

How Did Pusheen Get So Famous?

After the first comic strip in 2010, a spinoff was created in the form of blogs on Tumblr. In 2013, Simon and Schuster, the leader in general interest publishing, came up with a compilation titled I Am Pusheen the Cat, and remarkably, the compilation has been translated into 12 different languages.

However, it wasn’t until Facebook offered “chat stickers” in the form of emojis for its over 1 billion users that same year that propelled Pusheen into instant stardom overnight.
